Who asked for these things? Why does Sugarmountain think he needs to "improve" WhatsApp when it is already good? It is the only social media app I use and now it is bloated with shady privacy and AI stuff.

This happened because video calling scams happened in India, in huge amounts where a woman in a compromised/no dress appears, they take a screenshot and then extort money from you, threatening to send the screenshot to your relatives.
It's called "honey trap" here.
The mic mute feature might've been implemented to prevent AI scams.
Honestly what better spyware exists today than the operating system and meta apps?

mute is for either silence the ringing (doesn't end call) or mute this contact for certain period of time (like mute switch in android)
they should do separate contact/media save for whatsapp without giving access to phone's contact/storage. that would be a great privacy feature and allow signing with virtual number.
meta should relaunch their fb phone for business with all these features and social media posting/ad tools for marketing execs, leave the general userbase.

If I saw a mute button on an incoming call, I'd think it would mute the ringing sound and the notification for the call, not answer it and mute my mic
