Anonymous, 08 Apr 2025What interests me the most is if prices will go up in EU al... moreEU never had 30% import tax on anything, at least not for electronics. There is now literally zero import tax on Apple products. The reason why electronics are more expensive in the EU is A) manufacturers traditionally charge European countries more as European markets are smaller; B) EU countries have Value Added Tax on every retail product and this tax is much higher than for example Sales Tax in the USA. But even domestic products are taxed the same, so it's not a tax on imports. Now EU intruduced import tax on Chinese cars, but it depends on each manufacturer and doesn't affect anything else.

Foxtrot2Novmbr, 08 Apr 2025You Forgot to add to the Equation about those who are using... moreI don't think most non tech savvy-people care about Lightning or USB-C, all they see is having to buy new cables, which they don't like. Also I think upgrading our phone every 4-5 generation is a thing of the past, iPhone's easily last 6 years now. I'm not upgrading my iPhone 13 until 2028.

Anonymous, 08 Apr 2025What interests me the most is if prices will go up in EU al... moreThey aren't delivered through the US to the EU. Tariffs for China is a bit murky to the EU. They're clinging on to an ancient "development country" status, which means they are taxed less. Same as other "developing countries" like Saudi Arabia and such....
The EU really needs to fix this, and it looks like this nonsense by Trump is speeding up renegotiations between the EU and China. "Make Amerika 1930 again."

What interests me the most is if prices will go up in EU also. Even though EU had 30% import tax for all countries for million years now. EU people were always paying much more than US (eg. iphone 16 pro max 256, US MSRP price is 1199USD while EU price is 1499Eur (~1640USD) so we are paying 50% more)

India's production cost is a lot higher than China's but Apple did it because China phone have 10% tariff. Now the difference in tariff shrink to 8% it makes China phone a comparably better value

If shortsightedness was a super power, everyone would be super heroes.
There's no way Apple, or any tech vendor for that matter, can increase prices when at pre-tarrif/post-pandemic prices sales were already declining. We're not talking about eggs, milk and bread here, people. No one NEEDS an iPhone, especially if they already have one launched within the last 3 years. Yes, we may see some really (and I mean, REALLY) stupid companies raise prices in proportion to their increased tarrif costs (or more), but not only will they quickly come down to pre-tarrif levels, they will eventually come down even lower than that because if sales were already declining pre-tarrif when we hadn't even entered a recessions, what do you think is going to happen when we enter full blown recession or even depression?
No, folks, what's far, far more likely is that companies like Apple will adopt a shrinkflation strategy where they charge pre-tarrif pricing for devices with less capable hardware, all the while engaging in a multitude of deceptive advertising practices to obscure that fact, along with the nerf'ing of older devices to make them appear inferior by comparison.
