and im mostly a fan of that sensor because it punches far above its weight. The JN5 of the 15 Ultra is a definite improvement over the previous 1/2.51" IMX858 (i think that was the name, not too sure). The noise floor is far lower.

Look at the review of the find x8 here or on other sources. The same sensor is used the main camera in the find x8 and performs very well so of course it can perform very well. LYT700 is already proven to be a good sensor even as a main camera. Of course it depends on how they optimize it but it is very strong on the Oppo Find x8. The jn5 is used by both phones but it's a budget sensor. A small upgrade over the Jn1. You really seem to love that jn5!

Which one is the better sensor for selfie?

jiyen235, 10 Apr 2025which exact bar did they raise? The total of what makes a great overall package smartphone with ultra badge. Especially in camera and battery departments.

jiyen235, 11 Apr 2025even though you're right about the sensor size differe... moreYeah I remember something about remosaic process being changed on hp9 compared to predecessors. Samsung will be 4th one to release a 1-inch type sensor because of smartsens and omnivision releasing it in next few months, with latter already having announced it. What's looking interesting though is next gen 1/1,95" samsung sensor

Aierlan, 11 Apr 2025Looking at OPPO's total sensor size though it's j... moreeven though you're right about the sensor size difference it's actually not that big and remember that the Xiaomi has a larger aperture for both its main sensor and the telephoto cam. The 6x on the Oppo is only 1/1.95" and f/3.1 whereas the 4.1x on the Xiaomi is 1/1.4" and f/2.6. The main cams are f/1.8 on the Oppo and f/1.6 on the Xiaomi.

Only on the UW cam does Oppo win but it also has a less wider field of view so like it doesnt really matter much at the end of the day.

The only sensor that could've been a genuine game changer is the 3x but that sensor is an older one and wont really keep up in terms of software processing. Samsung's HP9 is highly advanced. So is the JN5. Only Sony's LYT-900 is more advanced/on par with the Samsung sensors imo. That sensor is a masterclass in noise/processing performance.

jiyen235, 11 Apr 2025the xiaomi has the massive 90-95mm HP9 and that surely cont... moreLooking at OPPO's total sensor size though it's just as large. 1/1.56" versus 1/1.4" when you compare the two larger sensors. Not a huge difference. There is a bigger gap in favour of OPPO for the smaller sensors and Xiaomi doesn't even have a periscope for their 3x. It's just 1/2.51" for Xiaomi and OPPO's is 1/1.95". Actually the total sensor size of OPPO is slightly larger (same ultrawide and main sensors). Also a 135mm focal length takes up more space. It's just that they are using their newly designed periscope structure which takes up less space. Also the OPPO is slightly larger due to the larger screen size which gives a tiny bit more space. You're right though most of us will slap a case on anyway

Aierlan, 11 Apr 2025It's the opposite. They already had dummy models on di... morethe xiaomi has the massive 90-95mm HP9 and that surely contributed to the camera module being larger. So ofc a larger camera module is going to be more uncomfy. Oppo's being prideful about the weight cutting and the size of the camera module, whilst downgrading the UW cam lol. Ofc it's gonna be nicer.

And yeah, that's my point, curved sides feel nice. The Find X8 Pro was damn near perfect. I hate this trend of following Apple and flattening everything but hey man, if this is where the money's at the companies are ofc gonna follow it. They duped people into thinking flat is more premium and when innovations halt, a few years later, they're gonna act like curved is more premium, rinse and repeat.

My point is, a heavy and thick phone, like the S22 Ultra im using right now, isn't that bad to hold if it has curves at the side and the back. I tried an S23 Ultra and it felt hideous in the hand. The S25 Ultra felt nice due to the smaller/thinner/less wider body and the lighter weight. It all just adds up bro.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is thicker and heavier and i didn't really look at the samples too closely and was fooled but the camera module doesnt slope in as nicely as the Find X6 Pro, X7 Ultra or the X100 Pro/Ultra. In my humble opinion it's a design downgrade compared to those phones, apart from the front screen ofc, and if the UW cam werent downgraded it wouldn't have felt nice at all.

Like, don't you think with curved sides and a curved back, the phone would've been more comfortable to hold? Sure, it'd not be as grippy as flat sides i'll give you that, but im talking about comfort. AT the end of the day we're gonna slap covers on these phones anyways. You can flatten a curved phone but you cant have curved covers for a flat phone.

jiyen235, 10 Apr 2025flat sides which look soulless, flat back which looks soull... moreIt's the opposite. They already had dummy models on display before the launch which I tried and it is much better to hold than say the Xiaomi 15 ultra. The reason being that there is more space below the camera module so at least for me when holding my index finger will rest just below the camera module when holding naturally. However, if I hold the Xiaomi 15 ultra when holding naturally the index finger rests on the camera module. Depends I guess on how you hold your phone but there is more space on the Oppo find x8 ultra due to the design and smaller camera module. For me at least it's one of the best ultras for in-hand feel. Of course compared to the find x8s or the Xiaomi 15 it can't compete for inhand feel but that's always a compromise you make for every ultra phone. The oppo find x8 pro also has a better inhand feel due to the curved sides which have been disappearing from phones.

Looking at the reviews on YouTube, is whipping the floor with S25 ultra. Has the most accurate color rendition, details are there but without unnecessary sharpening. At this point I consider this phone the best Ultra in the market.
