Oppo Find X8 Ultra in for review

The UWA cam is a downgrade. Perhaps for cost reasons. I think, the Vivo X200 Ultra is 2025 the best, until a successor comes out. Also 35mm - finally as main camera, ultra wide 24mm doesn't make sense. 35mm is always being universal, its the one focal length, to shoot it all since forever.

GSMArena, could you test out the 25MP mode and compare it with the default 12MP mode? Find X7 Ultra had the same feature and while IIRC it was only available on the main camera, it did capture substantially higher amount of details compared to its 12MP output. I'm interested if Oppo's implementation of "middle" resolution mode is just as good or even better than iPhone's. Cheers!

On paper, main 35mm, best UW and best periscope (even if only one) with two dedicated ISP chips is more interesting for me, but we will see which will be better.

And taking into account that you can easily create short panoramas with the main sensor, the need for a dedicated ultra wide sensor is greatly reduced IMO. + Oppo has a more refined, better looking and more natural image processing.

An ultrawide camera performance is really top-notch, especially considering smaller sensor size.

Vivo X200 Ultra seems more interesting camera wise, at least on paper for now.

Boooo... Just keep the thickness and give us more battery!
The camera bump makes it 20mm thick anyway

vik457, 11 Apr 2025No, 6x periscope uses w-prism design...which is ALoP becuase the word literally stands for "All Lenses on Prism". By definition, the current W-shaped prism (or Triple Prism is how Oppo calls it) periscope lens is a variant of ALoP design because all the lens elements would need to sit on top of the prism.

The 6x telephoto lens on this phone is quite interesting. Unlike the 3x lens, the lens opening is perfectly circular, and looking at the teardown it indeed seems to be using an ALoP periscope lens design.
This is good because this means that bokeh balls are perfectly rounded - Many other phones that use L-shaped periscope modules with D-cut lenses typically render bokeh in an unpleasant way, and the problem gets exacerbated on a small aperture lens (Such as the telephoto lens on Xperia 1 VI) where the busyness of the bokeh becomes obvious even at a shorter distance.
Overall great image quality, but I would like to know if Hasselblad Master mode is still present on this phone, and what kind of effect it has over the JPEG image quality. It would be great if GSMArena could cover this mode in their full review as it was one of the biggest selling point of Find X7 Ultra's camera last year.

Finally, the time has come...
The perfect Android slab smartphone has been made.
I can now sell every Android slab smartphone I have just to buy this one and have an iPhone Pro Max to pair, and it's done... No more 8 phones in the bag because the first one has the perfect battery, the other one has the perfect set of cameras, and so on...
Now it is just the format that matters: slabs, foldables, flips like this or flips like that, but OPPO has finally ended the 19-year wait for me on the Android slabs. Almost two decades looking for this phone, and suddenly, OPPO makes it.
I'm speechless, OPPO.
Thank YOU SO MUCH as a smartphone enthusiast since the first iPhone ever came out in 2006.
I have created this account just to write this congratulation message to OPPO on my behalf and to put the first 'like' as my favorite phone ever on this website and vote for Find X8 Ultra as the phone of the year for 2025.
Keep it this way for the next iterations: Find X9 Ultra, X10 Ultra, and so on and so forth, and try to release it a little bit more early in the year, like January or February, after you experiment with the always newer and latest Qualcomm Snapdragon SOC in the OnePlus satellite brand or Realme in the internal Chinese market.
And the funniest part is: I have never had an OPPO as my daily driver before!
