And it's not the Sci fi you think it is. Add on the nature of Silicon valley who love to overstate everything to get funding, it's almost as promising as flying cars.

AI isn't the first example of this thinking, but the latest in a long line, stretching from the early smartphone camera back to the telephone itself. Every time a new technology is introduced, its initial usefulness and functionality are questioned.
While neither you nor I know precisely where AI will be in 10 years, given the rapid pace of development, I'd bet we'll eventually look back at current models (like Gemini, ChatGPT, etc.) the way we now view those early smartphone cameras.

Let's take a simple task, taxes. The laws are clear. The data and the forms are there, and they're all objective data, numbers. Yet no AI that can automagically do taxes. Go figure.
Randomly generating photos and videos through hallucinations are gimmicks.
And no. In 10 years, maybe they can generate images of people with proper hands and fingers, and maybe they can generate text properly. But that's still gimmicks.
And Google? Pfft. I have exposed my data to Google for years, believing in their Assistant and ML. Yet even today, Gemini still cannot remember my work address, despite the address being clearly marked and saved on Google Maps as my work address. It always directs me to a random address when prompted. That's how AI is a gimmick.

Think about it: in only about a decade and a half, we've jumped from Siri's debut to something like Gemini Live. That's almost like going from a Speak & Spell to talking with the Starship Enterprise computer! Two technologies that science fiction had us believe would be separated by multiple centuries.
Calling it just a gimmick now is as wrongheaded as when people dismissed the first smartphone cameras. For better or worse, this tech is here and getting smarter fast. Trying to imagine what these AI models could do in another 10 years? It's genuinely hard to wrap your head around.

Lurker, 13 Apr 2025You understand what 'going into' means, right? AI... moreNo AI can do what I said, not today, not even tomorrow.
If they could, it would've been advertised left and right as that would've been a huge thing for enterprises. Instead, we have stupid emoji and art generations instead.
