Your Android phone now auto-restarts if it's been locked for three days

16 April 2025
It's a security feature that Google is rolling out through a Google Play Services update.

I actually don't agree with this supposed security measure. I hope it's an "opt-out" feature, I don't want my device to restart itself automatically. I don't even care if that means it's more insecure; I just want more control over my device.

EDIT: Should've read the comments more thoroughly. According to some of you, it is an optional feature. I really hope so, given that I haven't gotten the update yet.

Moreover, the description of these updates doesn't say anything about what was "fixed".

Finally, it is more dangerous to store your data in a cloud than not updating your phone. Nobody is going to put so much effort into hacking a single phone of an average person. Either they are going to steal a big amount of concentrated data at once or they will hack the phone of a high-profile person.

P.S.: Companies will always keep a door open for governments to spy on you.

Smallworld, 16 Apr 2025Would be nice if you could make it restart after 24 hours, ... moreWould be nice if they don't, at all. I own phones that are on standby most of the time, like the LG phones that I mainly use as a DAP, and an HTC 10 that I use solely as an alarm clock.

This update is only counterproductive in my use-case. But then again my HTC 10 isn't passcode locked.

This isn't really a feature for me, more like an annoyance.

I own phones that are locked most of the time. Especially the LG phones that I mainly use as a DAP. And not to mention an HTC 10 that I have plugged in solely as an alarm clock.

This update is only counterproductive in my use-case.
