I think the only company that matters to Trump is Elon's, the rest can suffer, unfortunately this kinda backfired since some people are hating on Tesla

There are much better decisions he should prioritize over what Elon Musk wants to manifest and require little to no attention about.

Roughly 50% in India and Malaysia is also ridiculous. How does one country magically decide it wants this and just places exorbitant tariffs on everyone else?
There's neither rhyme nor reason behind this; it's just ridiculous. As others have pointed out, this is not good for anybody. Everyone is going to suffer, especially regular consumers because prices are going to go up all over the world. Not just tech(which is what we are all interested in), but even daily necessities.
Phones, GPUs and PCs have steadily been increasing in price over the last decade, but now they are going to skyrocket. It really does look like we are in for another recession, after we barely recovered from the coof.

The design does account for a significant fraction of the final price, so it's expected that the price would be higher than its launch price.

This isn't just about US tariffs. Many Latin American countries (ESPECIALLY Brazil) have had extorionate tariffs for years. So much so that it was common practice for Brazilians to finance their US vacations by loading up on electronics and then reselling them back home. Besides, the planning for this would have begun months, if not years ago, so it makes little sense to take this as evidence of a response to recent changes in US trade policy.

And the only reason why Brazil has only 10% tarrifs is that they import more US goods than they export there, so the ideal trade partner for Trump.
Brazil vs USA in 2022
Imports: 54,328,385,670 US$
Exports: 38,147,322,480 US$
Deficit for Brazil: -16,181,063,200
I doubt after 2 years this trade is opposite, where Brazil has a trade suplus against USA.

Hugo, 18 Apr 2025But this neither provides decent jobs for the locals nor do... moreI am not sure If the companies are really the winners.
If they move the production back to US, where the production is more expensive, they will either increase the price or their margins will get a hit. So neither is an good option for them.
Then let's not forget how they will suffer counter tariffs etc. all over the world, because they are US companies.

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2025A lot of the people here didn't see the big picture to... moreIf It was really only about China, he wouldn't put tariffs on everyone.
And US companies won't leave China, they will just relocate a part of production aimed for US to a different country.
And to your hello India, Brazil, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Current tariffs.
India: 52%
Brazil: 10%
Vietnam: 90%
Malaysia: 47%
They will move to Brazil, then Brazil will receive additional tariffs. End of story.
Then let's not forget about counter tariffs levied on USA, and how everything is becoming more expensive there. US companies will have a pretty hard time all over the world in the future.
But yeah, this was aimed only against China to move out production from there. Faceplam
You don't have a clue.
