As the saying goes: A new thing is a well-forgotten or unknown old thing.
In older phones there was and still is a scheduled On/Off function.
That is, you can set the time you want it to turn on or off, which makes it very similar to the new function.

I don't even have a screen lock, of any kind. The best protection is to not use it at all for any sensible information. I hope I would be able to keep my phone unlocked, even in the future.

How about ressurecting Google+ ? ;;) It was pretty neat. If you rebuilt it with Datastar Framework, even better.
No need to waste everyone batteries with client side tracking..

Aight Google makes the phones have a minimum 6gb for a full Android experience and this is what they are adding? HAH updates like this never needs an additional 2gb of RAM.

Who's using this feature? Seems like something no one asked for.
