CEO answer: to have something to add later on for the next version to encourage upgrade (I bet 18 Air will have an ultrawide)
In reality, most people wouldn't even realize it. I have met so many flagship phone users with triple camera setup where they all have no idea their phone has ultrawide and telephoto. Most of them mostly only use 1x, and only pinch-in/out without realizing they are utilizing telephoto/ultrawide. That's why budget phones have no problems putting useless cameras like depth sensor/macro. People only cares that their phone look like the flagship phone.

Why does the Air only have one camera!?
It's going to make it's buyers look poor, and a lot of them can't have that..... so it won't sell. So why even offer it at all?

People had a theory this new camera island was to make the phone rest evenly on a table. But it looks like the camera lenses still stick out past the island so the phone is still going to wobble when resting on a flat surface. So if it's not for that reason, then what is the purpose of this?

While neither the 17 nor the 17 Air look like the 17 Pro duo, the actual odd one out seems like 17, which by looking exactly like the 16, will push buyers to get either a Pro or the Air.

That has an explanation! The iPhone is the best phone in the world and is number 1 in sales today! It left Samsung behind! You can go out on the street and ask what phone you want to have and out of 10 people at least 8 tell you they want an iPhone 🤷 All the executives of the Chinese brands use iPhones, they use Macs, they use iPads, face pei uses the Apple ecosystem, the CEO of Xiaomi, the one from Huawei .. The hatred towards the apple is already old but reality is reality, at the end of the day Chinese phones are more advanced but, look at what the big YouTubers use to record their content, an iPhone

I swear to god, you people are never, ever happy. There is no design on this planet that you guys would be happy with, because as soon as it says Apple, you have to hate it. I'm not saying that you have to love it, but how preoccupied are you with stuff you hate, that you guys always take the time out of your day to hate on Apple? It's rather sad, to be honest.
