28 April 2025
It will let flagship Androids compete head-on with Apple's new iPhones sooner.

Bob the web dev, 30 Apr 2025No because the CPU and GPU are constantly changing voltage ... moreI'd say yes, it does increase the heat. See, every new generation uses either higher frequency, more memory and/or manufacturing process with smaller footprint (8-6-4-..nm). That pretty much results in more electronic components within same size of silicone chip. But that's also increasing power consumption and ofc heat released..
Even if number of transistors remain constant, new process means higher density.. heat is also increased due to that..

jiyen235, 30 Apr 2025it's intentional.I also think so. There are no midrange phones anymore - either low-end devices or high end. Middle ground disappeared. Apart from Poco X7 Pro, there's basically nothing else, at least in Europe..

Des, 30 Apr 2025A question to the people here, do the.increase in cpu and g... moreNo because the CPU and GPU are constantly changing voltage and frequency. The stated numbers are max speeds for the cores not the consistent speeds of the cores.

It's only if you see prolonged max usage you'll see worse performance/battery (purely because most phones have no active cooling so will throttle the cores to keep it in the power consumption phases (probably like CLK phase steps otherwise SoCs will burn themselves out).

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2025Android now run PC games using winlator, games like Gta5, ... moreIt doesn't matter. Google and Microsoft are US companies and both are very careful not to mess up with one another, because they're is a risk data stealing from other countries will suffer/stop. And we all know it's a government policy to do so , hence all US companies have to obey.

So android will never become desktop replacement, in turn Windows will never offer mobile/embedded experience on par with it.

Des, 30 Apr 2025A question to the people here, do the.increase in cpu and g... moreNo, in fact its actually does the opposite. Usually apps or games doesn't really require full performance from the soc, so by making it faster the apps/games can draw less power for the same performance or you can call it more energy efficient.

The real world example is maybe genshin impact test. I still remember clearly that snapdragon 865 can handle that game 60 fps for only like 15 minutes or so, then it start throttling and the heat went up to around 45-47°. The current snapdragon 8 elite EATS genshin impact easily, it can run the game for an hour 60 fps while the heats stays around 39-41° only.

In my understanding, camera performance is just as dependent on how fast and efficient signal imaging processing is performed on the phone, as it depends on the actual camera hardware.
Of course, larger sensors with faster readout are always welcomed as they allow to capture more photons per time.
That being said, the major selling point of cameraphones is their sophisticated computational photography, which allows for stunning image quality from relatively small sensors.

But what's the point of annual SoC upgrades? Yes, the Android requirements are getting stricter for the OS and apps to perform, but beyond that - why? Most people who play mobile games are either playing universal (meaning they'll work relatively fine even on potato) games, bought gaming phones or game on relatively low end SoCs. And also those who boast about SoCs important don't even utilize it properly besides media consumption... Even people whom I know and consider themselves as "power users" are more than sufficiently pleasured with their current flagship grade performance.

Instead of annual SoC upgrades, perhaps focus on improving cameras instead? The flagship cameras haven't advanced significantly of the last 3 years. The "flagship killers" in the last few years have become a joke than genuinely serious contender to consider as an upgrade from the mid-range options, whose cameras have significantly advanced since the last 5 years...

I really despise how manufacturers are going back and forth with improvements than settling down with horizontal progression like other tech branches have done.
