The former could be a pleasant surprise, the latter a slight disappointment.

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 42 minutes agoIt's not only about being compact or the thinnest, the... moreThere is nothing unique, my friend. Purely and simply maximum money profit for minimum effort. Every major corporation is striving for this. Only about ~1.5mm thinner and 30-40 grams lighter is not a miracle of miracles.
The exploding batteries had nothing to do with the technology they used, but with the size of the battery itself. This is not an excuse not to use the newer, better and faster charging technology that has been widespread for years, not months. It is also a shame about these 12GB of RAM at a price of 1100+ euros. For God's sake, Samsung even produces its own chips. And they can't afford +4GB extra, and everyone who buys chips from them can, and at a lower final price of their flagships? Explain to me why I have these 7 years (great, I'm FOR) of phone support, given that even with A16 Google made the minimum RAM requirements 6GB? After 7 years, will 6GB still be the minimum? All this useless AI also wants some of this resource. It has always been about money, no matter what the manufacturer tells you.
This phone will not interest gamers or photo-oriented people.
In reality, these thin phones are most useful for unpretentious people who constantly carry their phone in their shirt pocket and there every gram and mm matters. These people mainly browse, bank or make calls. There, they mainly want the largest possible battery. Samsung does not offer this with this model. Moreover, at this insane price, it is "don't buy it" all day long.

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 1 hour agoNot everyone really takes advantage of all the S25 Ultra fe... moreIn my opinion the S25 Edge should've been a high-end, but not a completely flagship phone. It should've had the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, or the Dimensity 8400, in order to make up for the lack of cooling, should've had an at least 4500mAh battery and a 900 eur max price tag, with a different name, Galaxy S Edge, similar to the Galaxy Note Edge of the past.

"Are you seriously, defending the omission of USB 3.2 in 2025?"

I'm not defending it, I'm just saying that not everyone needs it, but at these prices it needs to be added. The X200 Pro mini should've had it too, it doesn't, that's an understandable dealbreaker for some and not for others, but yes it should've had it.

"Regarding throttling, my thinner S25 does not throttle during daily use compared to my old chunky Pixel.."

I mean that makes sense, but the S25 isn't a device that's TOO thin, it's just thin enough to have enough space for cooling, but not to feel bulky. Pixel is also possibly the worst comparison, devices famous for overheating problems, made possible by their Tensor chipsets that are made by Samsung, but oh well.

"Samsung's amazing optimization and decent charging.." ( quoted from your other comment )

I'm not doubting their optimization, but come on, 25W counts as a decent charging speed according to you, but everyone else offers more, so no I'm sorry, but the worst of something can't be decent. Even the A36 and A56 offer more with their actually decent 45W charging, and those are cheaper phones.

We might disagree on some and other things, but even in my opinion the S25 isn't a bad smartphone option, it's actually the only one for people that want a compact phone with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and USB 3.2, and especially if they don't want to import the only other option. People have different preferences, and while I prefer ultrasonic fingerprint scanners over optical, the cameras of the S25 and the UI are both dealbreakers for me, so I'd still choose the X200 Pro mini if I wanted a compact phone.

Otherwise I don't see how the S25 Edge is a better option for anyone over the S25, it will be slightly thinner, but it's not like the S25 is thick, yes it will have a larger and wider display, but it's the same resolution, thus less sharp, and instead of a larger battery, it has a smaller one to go with it. It's thinner, but not by much, but it's enough to throw the telephoto camera, the cooling, and the battery life of the S25 (the latter being especially great on the S25) in the trash, and I don't see how that's worth it.

kdss, 1 hour agoI see that you are commenting on all sorts of parameters wi... moreIt's not only about being compact or the thinnest, there is no other big-screen flagship phone this light, around 160g.

Although, they clearly should have used a silicon battery. But you don't want to urge Samsung for new battery technology unless you want the Note 7 episode back.

The new S25 Edge stands out with its uniquely thin and light design for it's screen size, at least for the time being.
Samsung's finally trying something different, even if it is not perfect.
Anyway, Samsung has the cash to test the market for it and, maybe, compete with the iPhone 17 Air.

DarlingYext, 2 hours ago"And PWM dimming is a real issue across their whole li... moreNot everyone really takes advantage of all the S25 Ultra features, especially now that it has, sadly, lost some S Pen functionalities.
What if people want a big screen and most flagship features without the back-breaking weight and thickness? Finally, there's an option.
Maybe no one wants it, but Samsung's got the cash to find out and test the market.

Regarding throttling, my thinner S25 does not throttle during daily use compared to my old chunky Pixel, the Snapdragon Elite is very efficient. So, unless you already own the S25 Edge, we'll have to see about that.

        In your other comment:

Are you seriously, defending the omission of USB 3.2 in 2025? USB 2.0 is 25 years old and it cost almost nothing to add USB 3.2.
People transfer large files, besides pictures and videos, such as movies and many music files, especially when they will lack internet access (trip, train...) or use their phone as a fast USB drive if there is none around.
And it can be used to plug in some USB 3.2 accessories, like fast portable SSDs and docks (for DeX usage).
        Stop defending USB 2.0.

This S25 Edge is unique in its thin and light class with today specs, for now.
Samsung's finally trying something different, be happy. This will allow them to test the market and, maybe, compete with the iPhone 17 Air.

I see that you are commenting on all sorts of parameters without considering the most important thing - the price at which you get these parameters. Excluding all sorts of foldable "things", the S25 Edge will be, if not in the Top 5, then in the Top 10 of the most expensive phones. Let's compare it to a standard S25. What exactly is so compact about the S25 Edge? You get worse hardware at a higher price, with a larger display, but it is a WHOLE 1.4mm thinner. "A miracle unseen". What exactly justifies its price? This is nothing more than another milking of the fans. And if they really cared about the fans, as the fans care about the brand and jump to defend it like crazy, they would at least use the latest technology among the batteries, so that they could put as big a battery as possible in this thin phone and which would make the most sense and benefit for consumers. But no - 3900mAh and battery technology from the past. With parameters like 800 - 850 euros at the price of 1100+... I'm not saying it won't sell like hotcakes. I have no doubt that it will. As another person here said yesterday, even a fart in a jar with the right name on it, especially if AI is added to the advertising, will sell like hotcakes. I'm not saying there's no need for such a thin phone. There are users who want exactly that. But paying ~1/3 more than what it actually costs seems pretty stupid to me.
But Apple and Samsung have proven over the years that Marketing >>> Research and Design. The more something is advertised to the modern consumer, the more they will spend, no matter how overpriced it is. Just like Samsung's marketing uses one of the oldest tricks in the trade. You release a device that actually costs 1000 euros at a starting price of 1500 euros and you constantly "keep it on promotion" at 200-300 euros below that price with all sorts of "good deals" and people think they got the deal of their life by "saving 200 euros". I wonder if they even sold 100 units of the S25U at the original announced price at the presentation.

Ortana, 4 hours agoDid anyone ask for a thin phone in the first place? I bet t... moreRather than thin, they should have gone smaller, just like mini. Smaller and more squarer.
Or thin and square like reader. They could have shrink A9 tablet in vertical dimension and give it phone prospect. Do something novel Samsung, not just thinner phone.

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 3 hours agoI was saying that those S25 Edge specs are mostly flagship-... more"..the USB 2.0 bottleneck for anyone actually transferring large files or using DeX over a cable.

                Also not everyone's a "pro" photographer .."

Just an honest question, if this phone doesn't target photographers, which is clear and we can agree on that, but then what, if not pictures, are those large files being transferred, and where to?

As I've mentioned before I'm not saying they should've gone with USB 2.0, but at this price USB 3.0 (or higher), isn't anything special, it's just expected.

"..obsessing over UW and zoom quality. Most just want a reliable good main camera for everyday quick snaps."

That's totally cool, and fair. Why buy a flagship device if that's the case tho? Clearly not for gaming, because this one isn't gonna be the right choice for that, due to the next to no cooling and small battery, and there are gaming phones for a lot less money, that don't offer much with cameras, but offer everything for gaming. So why?

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 3 hours agoI was saying that those S25 Edge specs are mostly flagship-... more"And PWM dimming is a real issue across their whole lineup."

It sure is, but that doesn't mean they should just give up on it and launch every new phone they make with awful PWM, and it also shouldn't mean that consumers should give up on wanting better.

"I was saying that those S25 Edge specs are mostly flagship-level, not mid-range.."

I understood that, but it just isn't true, and I'm not trying to compare a Samsung device to vivo, or anything else here. These specs don't hold up as flagship specs compared to their own lineup. The Edge is going to be basically the same price as the Ultra, and if we look at the specs of the Ultra and call those flagship specs, which they are (except for the 10MP telephoto), then there is no way the specs of the Edge are flagship level, except for the chipset* and build quality.

*However, when it comes to the chipset, it's plenty powerful and that's great, but with this phone I'd say it's too powerful, it is going to be thin, which has already meant that there wasn't enough space for a large enough battery, and with that it also means there isn't going to be enough place for cooling. Overpowered SoC with no cooling will mean overheating under heavy load and possibly normal usage as well, which leads to worse battery life, combine that with a small battery and it will lead to even worse battery life.

DarlingYext, 4 hours agoLook man, 200MP isn't anything special as a main camer... moreI was saying that those S25 Edge specs are mostly flagship-level, not mid-range and in the thinnest and lightest package: something that doesn't yet exist on the market.
                    But, oh well.

Just like any other S25 series phones, having 8bit vs 10bit screen color no one will notice that, unlike the USB 2.0 bottleneck for anyone actually transferring large files or using DeX over a cable.

Also not everyone's a "pro" photographer obsessing over UW and zoom quality. Most just want a reliable good main camera for everyday quick snaps.
This phone does not target camera phone enthusiasts, there is the pricier S25U for them.

The battery is the main concern, but Samsung's amazing optimization and decent charging (especially at this capacity and with battery protection at 80%, my S25 goes from around 15% to 80% in arround 20 minutes) should work for many.
Although, this would have been a perfect opportunity for Samsung to put in a better and bigger capacity silicon-based battery, next time maybe.

And PWM dimming is a real issue across their whole lineup.

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 7 hours agoSo specs like LTPO Amoled, ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, ... moreLook man, 200MP isn't anything special as a main camera anymore, while USB 3.0 (or higher) might be important for some, for most it isn't, and if it is they know exactly which device has it and which one to choose. Not to mention that at 1200(+) usd, a good main camera and a better than USB 2.0 port isn't something to be happy about, they are expected and must have features. As for titanium, sure it sounds premium, but it ages terribly.

The more important things, like a high quality ultrawide camera, an actual zoom camera for quality portraits and longer zooms, which in-sensor zoom can't do, fast charging and a large battery, good PWM dimming and 10 bit display are all missing at such sky high prices. This device is going to be so expensive that either everything is included, or it's not worth the price.

Did anyone ask for a thin phone in the first place? I bet the battery would be shrunk into oblivion. It's not that hard to fit a normal phone in the pocket. What's the point of this in the first place?

Not giving this 200mp camera to S25 and S25+, but giving it to this nonsense - was big mistake.

That 200MP main is okay I guess, but they need to give AF to the ultrawide to make it acceptable, otherwise that's basically an entry level sensor.

Anonymous, 13 hours agoWith that tiny battery, it needs fast charging tech. With such a small battery even 25W will finally count as actually fast charging. 🤣
