Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra outsold the S25 and S25+ combined

Ultra might be the "ultimate" flagship, but also the bulk beef enormous handset not suitable for everyone.
I wish we don't end up having only ~7" true flagships available soon, because the smaller ones have worse sales numbers.
I hope Samsung creates a small Ultra version some year, just like we had small Note 10 few years ago.

Absolutely easy to explain. Very high level marketing from Samsung, which is 1:1 like Apple's. 😁
They release an Ultra model for 1500 euros, which in hardware terms is worth 1000 euros. Then they keep it on "promotion" 24/7 with 200 euros down with various marketing tricks like "Storage upgrade", "Good deals", etc., etc. Separately, they release 2 models from the same line, which are at a similar price, but with 1/3+ worse parameters than the Ultra. They even now release an Edge, which is even worse in terms of price and parameters. To enhance the effect. People think they made the deal of their lives by saving 200 euros for the Ultra. Samsung is happy that they made an extra 300 euros from a product that actually costs 1000 euros, not 1500. Everyone is happy. The next year, things repeat themselves.

Of course, the Ultra is the only real flagship out of their soon to be quad "flagship" lineup , so this makes sense.

Everybody is doing well. Manufacturers from China had a good quarter, Samsung had a good quarter and I saw Apple had a good quarter too. That means everyone gets a piece of the pie and consumers can be happy no matter their choice because competition is best for the consumer, right?

It makes sense. If you want a large phone you may as well spend more and get something better. Or if you want a small phone the standard S25 is basically the same for cheaper.

Azu10157, 02 May 2025Do you just get the 1Tb model to flex your wealth? Because ... moreI would get the S21U, S22U, S23U, and S24U with only 512GB and that would last me maybe 3 months before I would run out of storage. I figure a 1TB will me 5 maybe 6 months.

Anonymous, 02 May 2025Very insightful. I wonder if that is the reason the +-model... moreYou do understand that the + version should be the pro version other brands have and then third option as their best Ultra.
You try to play something here but it wont work for you

Not a problem since the purpose of the lower tier models in a lineup is to upsell the top dog with the biggest margins. This has been Apple's business for a long time with the strategic pricing and big compromises with the lower models despite being in the same line. The max/ultra models get waaay more goodies than the smaller flagship, compared to what they offered a decade ago.

pl2rts, 02 May 2025S+ is basically just larger screen version of S base model.... moreVery insightful. I wonder if that is the reason the +-model has the same name, but with a plus added to the end? I also wonder if that is why the Ultra isn't just called a ++-model?

S25 and s25 plus are basically same as last year with not a single change.. you can't even tell the diference side by side..

when your base phones are already so bad that they make the ultra, which is far behind its competitors, look futuristic, then ofc people are gonna go for the better deal.
Apart from people who prefer the size/weight benefits of the s25, i doubt anyone's really gonna go for the s25+ anymore due to the s25 ultra having rounded corners and stuff and a significantly lighter body compared to previous ultras.

S+ is basically just larger screen version of S base model.
Maybe some more features but yeah i would go with S for the size of the phone and if i want larger screen then Ultra to also get better cameras.
But i dont live in the realm where i can buy phones based on their names only.
1-2 years old S class price drop so much that it's the best middle class phone to get as still 5 OS updates left or at least 4

This phone is a beast, good at everything. But when you feel the size and weight of that brick, and look at the price, you think about the Regular or Plus. And then you realize these two are just expensive midrange phones...So you wait for next year, hoping Samsung will finally improve the S serie. And you think the chinese phones are getting more attractive every year.

This is why if they secretly downgrade the Ultra they risk tanking the sales of their most profitable phone.
- Don’t downgrade the bluetooth S Pen
- Don’t cheap out with the 8 bit display
- Don’t insist on removing Dolby Vision
- Don’t secretly give Google Pixel the better display material & end up not using it in the Ultra
- Don’t glue cheap aesthetically-not-so-pleasing camera rings (that collect dust)
- Don’t settle for IP68 when IP69 phones exist & iPhones could dive deeper

The S25 Ultra 1TB (I paid $709 for) has been a good phone for me so far but I can't wait to trade in my S25 Ultra 1TB and buy the new S26 Ultra 1TB next year.
