Anonymous, 9 hours agoI think at 8-8.5mm you can flush most of the camera sensors... moreIf the phone size be like 120mm x 60-70mm and something like 10mm thick then i dont think anyone would care about the thickness that dont matter much when the change is like few mm only. 10-15 years ago all hardware was larger and screens were not possible to make edge to edge like we have in present past 2 plus years. While all phones were a lot smaller in the 2 sides measures as tall and wide. They basically added like 40mm to make phones more taller. They then lose 3.5mm jack for a reason that they have no space. Even tough that was for the reason so people buy bt headphones. Then they removed SD card for the same reason no space even tough they remove it so people can use their cloud service. Now they just make phones tall and wide while also make them slim so they prove that they have enough space for everything. Even the camera modules 10-15 years ago were a lot bigger but still fit in the phone without coming out of the phone back.
I dont think people ask for these camera bumps. Like people didnt ask for larger phones while they wanted larger screen at the time there was 1/3 of the screen as bezel but they understand that making bigger screen must mean bigger phones. Now even new battery tech make the batteries smaller so more space for the hardware in phones.
The camera bump basically makes the phones unbalanced to operate them on a table. It's like a stool with one leg missing so sitting on it is dangerous. Even tough with phone to have one leg out of 4 corners dont make it dangerous but just annoying when the phone wobbles on the table

You want the already glacial charging speed of the iPhone to be set even further into the ice age? 😭

Think about it, the port is the thickest part of the phone and the EU won't let apple go portless. EU standing in the way of innovation as always.

And since it is a SLIM phone, it will gently bend to fit your rear end as you shove it in your rear pants pocket.

Take the 12" retina MacBook. It was definitely designed for Apple Silicon in mind, considering its fanless design. It suffers from overheating a lot due to Apple still using Intel.
The iPhone 6 Plus was another example, sporting the anemic A8, that it stutters out of the box. The A8 couldn't handle the increased screen resolution.
This seems to be another one of those, probably pressured by marketing to be released way in advance prior to Apple securing SiC batteries due to the bombed Apple Intelligence.

Why are people so excited about big-screen phones these days? What's wrong with the world? Want to put a fragile metal plate in your pocket? Which will split in half when you sit down

Apple always strike me as that kinda guy who wants to be independent and unique, yet low-key depends A LOT on other people.

It does not come easily, though, as this will change balance and many people might not want extra thickness.

I typically use Google Pixel devices but for certain reasons switched to iPhone but if this is how the 17 Pro/Pro Max are going to look, I am switching back to a Pixel or something else.

But they do the islands cause that is the only design element on a brick that can look different from other bricks

I've always been loyal to Samsung for the Galaxy lineup... Especially because it's been one of the most consistent brands so far in terms of software, and it's something I've always prioritized. But it's starting to get annoying that certain markets are always being sacrificed to subsidize others. Unless the Exylos 2600 match the Snapdragon Elite 2 in performance and power consumption, or the price reflects the difference in cost, the phone I'm looking for next year will be from Chinese brand.

Is there ANY practical explanation as to why the camera islands consist of 80% useless space and 20% camera?

Don't get any of this when it's basically going against everything apple.
This company changes it's mind more than Google and that's saying something, just supposedly this dude is so deep in bed with them that he knows in 3 years what they're going to do (when most information we get about the up coming iPhone is wrong. Every. Single. Year) and is supposedly allowed to leak any information he wants... Yeah no chance.
Where's the SE and mini models gone... Oh yeah lol. Wasn't the lightning connector meant to stay but laws changed that, yep. Back 14ish years ago iPhones were meant to have holographic screen/keyboard use and were meant to be completely bezel less by the iPhone 6.
GSM unless the news has come directly from apple themselves or actual apple lead engineers etc, this isnt legit news, it's heresay/rumor so if you're going to continue then make a category for rumors/made up info and label your article as such.
