Anonymous, 10 hours agoTidal were caught lying about MQA being lossless and that p... moreThere are levels of "lossiness"... Everyone can hear the difference between 128 kbps MP3 and regular Audio CD quality on any half-decent equipment. You could get away with 320 kpbs if the recording doesn't have much (especially in the upper frequency range) detail. Audio CD vs. MQA vs. SACD vs. High-res PCM gets more difficult.
I never had anything that can decode MQA so didn't use it or care for it and missed the whole story about it. It's gone anyway so irrelevant, except for moral discussions about TIDAL and/or MQA (the company).

Deezer, that I used for a while years ago was basically the same. Using TIDAL through my receiver's HEOS App brings me a bit more joy, I will admit that.
And can't say I'm in any way impressed by any of it, all of these modern apps are nothing but a bad joke compared to WinAmp on PC 20 years ago, but it serves its purpose.

Salmee, 09 May 2025How much better is Tidal than Spotify?Depends on how you look at it. For me, the first question is binary: lossless stream available - 1, no lossless stream - 0.
Paying a monthly subscription for a digital music service where the best audio quality is worse than Audio CD was 40 (!) years ago is, in my book, simply unacceptable.
Spotify's max bitrate is 320 kbps, on TIDAL the minimum available is lossless compressed FLAC which is normally around 900 kbps, if that tells you anything. And a lot of albums are available in "Hi-Res" like 24 bit/96 kHz with bitrates of a few thousand. You may or may not appreciate the difference, depending on the quality of your equipment, records that you listen to, the environment you listen in etc.
Same goes for how Netflix audio and video quality is unacceptable compared to Blu-Ray, but in that space there is no readily available alternative and video streaming is much more fragmented.
I have yet to stumble upon a song or album that isn't available on TIDAL so I really don't see what advantage could Spotify have over it.
They do offer a free 30 day trial (through some offers more) so you can check it out yourself.

Deezer and other streaming services also have lossless, if I'm not mistaken. Only Spotify is stuck in 1998 when we ripped CDs to MP3 as storage space cost some real money and broadband internet existed only in science fiction.

It's DRM Free, which means stresslessly using in on BSD without linuxcompat ancient kernel quirks, but they are some greedy fags, so sorry ! (their UI--API-- is the fastest, btw, 'maybe' because they are not using the widevine matastasic-cancerous google-related stuff.)

A way to get rid entirely of all the green would be a good start ! +completely disabling everything 'pop' means and podcasts also, in settings, merged, no different domain/cookies for that panel. + when you delete the account, uBlock should cry about that redirect. + free of anything google related should also be a good start. Ads shouldn't mean Google.
