Mentor, 12 Sep 201364 bits a must have for devices with 4 gb ram or more. Whic... moreActually it isn't, thanks to PAE.
You only need it if a single app requires more than 4GB of RAM, but multiple apps can have their own (separate) 4GB hence they can make use of much more than just 4GB in total.

People just assume that because of the way Microsoft crippled their 32bit *consumer* OS that all of those limitations were from the 32bit architecture itself and not what they actually were: licensing limitations "artificially" imposed by Microsoft (they didn't enable PAE).

You can see this working just fine in Linux, you know, the kernel that actually powers Android.

    - Sheer size of die.
    - Amount of power required for said die.
    - Cost.
    - Refreshing would be an issue (RAM requires each individual cell to be refreshed in time, otherwise the data is lost).

Anonymous, 12 Sep 2013FYI Apple is the one who is always playing catch up lately.... moreBecause CNN says so? People don't understand iOS isn't like Android. It doesn't need quad core CPUs or huge screens or batteries. The difference is that the phone actually works and it works well, compared to these ridiculous 10 inch Android phones that strain your hands and pockets. They're the first out the door with a fully supported 64bit mobile OS and mobile CPU when Samsung hadn't even touched on it and then suddenly decided they would support it when, funny enough, Android doesn't. It's laughable that anyone could ever say that Apple is playing catch up when the first thing that the other manufactures always do after an iPhone conference is announce that they are copying the new features.

As with the 64 bit, it's still totally useless at the moment because all apps are still based on 32 bit. So stop crying.

Tom-Helge, 12 Sep 2013iPhone is a joke because this applies to the iPhones and iP... moreYou're kidding, right? I used to think this was the case but since I bought my first Mac only a month or two ago I've completely changed my view. I've had an iPhone since they've come out and can attest that it's far from a joke, and this article is a great example of why. Samsung is always playing catch up and adding features after Apple comes and says "we added this".

your damn right. 64 bit might be useful more with higher ram. however, n Iphone the ram still the same so whats the point lol

at less n android they will add more ram and there is real Multitasking.

I hope Samsung put that on Note 3 just to burn Apple cards hehehehe

what you people are forgetting is that samsung are the ones who actually manufactured the 64-bit chipset for apple, so maybe they were doing it before they did it for apple, but they just aren't releasing it into their phones yet?

Have anybody read the source article? It doesn't say it was announced, it was commented in an executives meeting. Shin was asked by the chiefs about 64bit processors in their phones.

“Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality,”

It was pretty stupid for Samsung to trot out 'me too' for 64-bit soon after Apple's launch. but who gives a crap?! We are still way off form utilizing 64bit tech. We STILL have tons of 32-bit programs on our PCs.

And doesn't Samsung make chips (along with TMSC) for Apple?

But Samsung are playing it safe in order to shut up Apple fanboys by introducing 64-bit CPUs, even though they needn't.
