Weekly poll: would you buy the Sony Xperia 1 VII?

25 May 2025
This phone has a unique combination of features, but it's priced so high that it competes with every Ultra flagship out there.

Sort by:

To start, where can you buy them? Sony releases a phone every year, and apparently they don't want to sell it! Plus, it's very expensive for what it offers. Not to mention, if it breaks, who's going to repair it? Sony doesn't exist in most markets. I don't know why they're releasing this phone.

    Mark 6 is better

This is why companies don't listen to the nerds crying for Micro SD cards and headphone jacks. Here's a phone with both of these features and now the nerds are crying about the resolution. Yall just yap and complain without ever buying the products you claim you want.

        1 like for MicroSD Slot

I would buy it right away if it were available in the Czech Republic. I don't understand what direction Sony is taking and withdrawing from sales in Europe. Despite some shortcomings and Sony's pricing policy, I have been using Xperia for many years and have been happy with them. Sony was my favorite brand, I bought TVs, cameras and other electronics... so at least I have a reason to look at other brands, since Sony doesn't care about its customers.

Sub-400ppi is inexcusable at this price point, so no. An SD card and 3.5mm port aren't so difficult to put in that it makes a phone that on any other brand would be 700-800€ at most worth the same as an S25 Ultra.

I genuinely hope some company releases a better phone than this for less money like we all know they can and actively choose not to. All Sony is doing with this phone is perpetuating the lie that these important features are somehow expensive or difficult to implement.

With such a low resolution display, I wouldn't even consider it - at any price.

I've never been an ultrawide camera person, so the new upgraded ultrawide camera doesn't tickle my heart. I'll stick with the 1 VII or even the 1 V for now. Sony needs to put a new larger telephoto camera for next year's 1 VIII.

Literary any other flagship that available in my country is cheaper that parallel imported Xperia with no warranty. The latest Xiaomi 15 Ultra is available for less than $1100. I see no single reason to go after Xperia anymore.

Daniel.kh, 25 May 2025Dear sony Put a full size ratio display on your flagship ... morewhat is wrong with their android skin?

Of course who wouldn't want to be a proud owner of the best smartphone in the world

Android 16 brought the biggest upgrade to this device. The UI on these Sony phones were always bland.

Don't say that Sony phones are bad but I'm happy with my Samsung S24 Plus. Otherwise I have several Sony devices like PS5 and earphones and TV...

Aadrian, 25 May 2025No, I am happy with my S24 Ultra. Though the Xperia pretty ... moreTheir software policy is now 4 OS and 6 years security patches. That's better than all Chinese brands not named Huawei.

LOL no. These are just to show off their tech, if they wanted buyers it would be 1k cheaper

No, I am happy with my S24 Ultra. Though the Xperia pretty much has still everything and you get the full package when buying this phone, the software policy and the high price are a turn off.

If it was a bit cheaper yes

Starting with this phone Sony store is the only place selling it, so no store deals and no carrier deals.

                                  1499 euro

                                  Iphone 16 Pro Max is 1199 now, S25 Ultra is 999, Fold 6 1239, Xiaomi 15 Ultra is 1149, OnePlus 13 939, Pixel 9 Pro XL is 929 euro.

List goes on and sure, these phones all dropped in price, but all of them except the fold 6 are cheaper at launch than the sony.

But sony being sold at their site only will never drop in price, that 1499 will stay 1499.

If is was 1200 I would bite the bullet, but otherwise plenty of other choices.

Another year passes, another missed opportunity. They are attempting to play it safe, but in doing so, they are effectively undermining the mobile branch

Have to see what those battery numbers are like when the software is optimised a little.

If I earned 300 euros clean a day, yes, it's wonderful but I can't afford it.
