Hey guys, not trying to be any critical, but still: apple is getting away with selling rubbish for 1000€, that's actually barely worth half of it.

But i assume the other half is their image/profile/ecosystem, and probably rightfully so?

Thay have right to ask price for immaterial thing as "premium", maybe.

i personally do not find their phones any comfortable at all, not worthy. But the simplicity and ease of start with them is rightfully appealing.

Apple isn't a charity; they're the world's most profitable tech company, with shareholders who expect them to maintain that status. So, if they can delay adopting a new specification or two to maximize profits, that's precisely what they'll do.

Furthermore, Apple doesn't face the same competitive pressure as Android OEMs. When Android manufacturers began incorporating high refresh rate (HRR) displays, it forced the rest to follow suit or risk falling behind in what is a hyper-competitive market. Apple doesn't have that problem—if you want iOS, it's Apple or nothing. This gives them significantly more leeway in how they spec their devices.

Frankly, I'd also like to see Apple fully embrace HRR, if only to stop hearing complaints from people who don't even use iPhones. However, for the reasons we've discussed, Apple simply isn't seeing the demand for it from their customer base.

I think in the end you and I are both in agreement on this but for different reasons.

And again, I know the base iPhones are bad but it's not like Samsung's base phones are any better either. Give em a HRR screen and they're basically on par with Samsung's one, which is likely happening this year.

The people who buy these phones are either fanboys or people who just dont know/dont care. So Apple and Samsung keep taking advantage of em. Hopefully it changes this year.

Just checked, in fact. 949€ for a measly 128 GB which at this point is just a crime. An absurd 1079€ for 256 GB, FOR A BASE iPhone! Absolutely stupid. Can't even make an argument about the 128 GB version existing for those that don't need much, because the pricing and most importantly upgrade price do not match that argument. They sell it for the sole purpose of getting people to upgrade.

But the vast majority of iPhone users simply buy iPhones so they don't have to care about anything; Which funnily enough is the reason Apple gets away with selling phones that lacking for such a price. No HRR screen, which even budget Android phones offer. No telephoto. Flagship processor? You got a worse version for years, even now it is at the end of the day a lesser version, even though iPhones have reached the 1000€ price point. Apple has many users that simply never even took a look at any alternatives. They want an iPhone because it is trendy, easy to use and because it is so comfortable to stay in their eco system, but none of that should mean I and others cannot criticize Apple.

If so, that assertion seems highly improbable.

Considering the vast user base in question here, it's far more plausible that HRR is simply not a decisive factor. Instead most iPhone 16 customers are likely prioritising a multitude of other features when making their purchase decisions.

I'd say it being only 40% is much lower than what could be expected knowing this.

DaFink, 30 May 2025look dude, i'm not going over the same ground repeated... moreYou say many people don't care, but not caring means you have to be aware, and those people tend to not be aware of what they don't get. They just see the Apple logo. Specs? Zero awareness. And that is what I and others criticize, Apple sell tech that would be looked down upon when other brands did so, simply because the customers tend to not look at any of the details.

The fact that a $200 low-end Galaxy A model is the best-selling Android smartphone yet shows the face of average consumers. Most of them only care about relevant hardware features, like a 3.5mm audio jack and a microSD card slot.

Like I said, those that don't care what they are missing are also the ones that simply do not know about what they are missing. That's also what the whole "once you see it you won't go back" thing is all about.

I switch between a 60 Hertz laptop, 120 Hertz phone and 240 Hertz monitor daily. That is indeed not a problem. However, we are talking strictly about going back to something worse on the same device, that's when you notice it. If I went back to a 60 Hertz screen, I would notice how much more stuttery it looks, yet I so not mind my laptop.

The standard iPhone line continues to sell well regardless of display refresh rate.
