Samsung details the innovations that enabled it to make the Galaxy S25 Edge so thin and light

30 May 2025
The phone's rigidity, the chipset's cooling and the size of the camera module were major issues to overcome.

Sort by:

They should have used this phone as a sneak peak of SiC battery and make it stand out from the rest of the S25 line up. 3900 mAh with their optimization can last a day with light to moderate usage but consumer expected more for a phone with $1000 price tag. Samsung fanboys/fangirls would have just buy the S25 Ultra.

Textbook..... Are all these complaints due to not receiving royalties?

      ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 30 May 2025"self-destructing", it's not a note 7 🤣 ... more"Despite its thinness, the Edge dissipates heat well.."

It doesn't, it heats up the most out of all S series devices, and doesn't last longer through gaming on a full charge than 2-3 hours, that's worse than already used phones with the infamous overheating 8 Gen 1, yet this is a brand new device.

"It's not "zero cooling", stop lying."

Sure, it's just not good enough cooling for the 8 Elite, what a big difference.

        "Innovations" lol

yes Samsung, of course no one has made a slim phone before you. You're the first one!
The moto z, with it's 5.2 mm slim metal unibody, doesn't exist

I find it crazy that the sustained thermal performance of this is better than the gt 7 with a sub flagship chip, but this gets all the flak for "losing 55% of performance!"

All phone batteries degrade over time. It's nothing new.

Despite its thinness, the Edge dissipates heat well, thanks to a larger vapor chamber than the base S25 and prior base S models (with almost the same battery capacity), and maybe even a larger one than the S25+/Ultra.

            https://youtu.be/ckqbHtcNrKo?t=1m45s

In this gaming test, it's not even the warmest phone, pretty impressive for the thinnest flagship among them.
It's not "zero cooling", stop lying.

Although, as I already said, they should have used silicon-carbon technology to increase battery capacity.

Only small people needs small phone because they cant work with regular size.
Asian region peple is a good example.
Europeans, people from Africa or America with average body and size needs decent powerfull phones not tiny china made toys so a 6,7 inch or bigger.
Can you imagine someone like for example Sultan Kosen or people from NBA uses phones with size of 6 inch or less??? Not possible.
Average human is 1,80m tall with that size typing and reading from a tiny screen is likely impossible.
Noone with to use magnifier on such small screen everybody rather buy normal looking phone not a china made tiny toy good only for kids and few asians people which forgot to eat properly to grow larger than 1,50m.

Just my honest opinion. No offence here.

But still no SIC battery. The actual component that makes the phone thinner, lighter and more energy dense. Laziness at it's finest.

Bet its only a big hype and Jerryrigeverything aka Zac Nelso will tear this phone into two or four by one single easy push.

It's an innovative self-destructing device, as the tiny battery with zero cooling will degrade in no time.

We have achieved good screens with OLED and even latest IPS panels.
We have achieved good enough performance with literally any SoC from the last 5 years. No more "wait for it" phones.
We have achieved portable camera worth using, for photos AND videos on basically any phone. Right in your pocket, no more carrying a separate device (or two) just for that.
We have achieved true connectivity via insane WiFi speeds, NFC, fast and long-range Bluetooth (for anyone that remembers v.1, oh god...), wireless everything. Your phone is now a datacentre, connected to at least several things at all times and more on demand.
We even were getting close to good battery life recently - anything with ~5000mAh battery was good enough in recent years. We even had SiC revolution, promising even bigger batteries.

The only thing left was slightly bigger batteries for those that use their phones more. I don't think anyone would need anything above ~7000mAh to last even through the most demanding days and those that don't use their phones much would get half a week or more out of their devices with such capacities. And we have them now.

And here are Samsung and Apple selling you devices with basically half a battery and calling it innovation. L-O-L.
Both this Edge and Apple's effort will look absolutely SILLY if anyone compares them directly with the upcoming Dimensity 7300 + large battery phones like that G86. Mega-efficient SoC + 7000mAh battery + average everything >>>>>> "pReMiUm FeEl" and slightly better everything but half a day of battery life and overheating pocket furnace. 300€ vs 1300€. Gee, I wonder which one I'd choose.

What innovations are Samsung talking about? Trying to fool people into thinking there's any innovation in removing cameras and putting in a smaller battery. Try putting in a bigger battery and I'd call it innovation.

They replaced the normal sized battery with a tiny one, cut out proper cooling and telephoto cameras and were done. Removing hardware is now innovation?
