Gemini now summarizes Gmail emails automatically and by default

31 May 2025
But it's only available to subscribers.

Sort by:

Objectively, this entails several points:
1. Gradual thinking degradation of most users and a decrease in the need to analyze anything
2. Potential loss of privacy
3. Slowly decreasing unique human whiting mail style

Positive:
Yes, its really convenient on the go for impulsive people

In all the articles I've seen about this, the titles always leave out that this ""feature"" is only available to Workspace or other subscribers.
Sounds like intentionally trying to mislead and create fear:

"OMG GMAIL ENABLED AI FOR EVERYONE* BY DEFAULT!!1!

    *paying subscribers only"

Well, Google found/create a way to legitimately read your email in the guise of Gemini AI summarization.

User935, 31 May 2025Absolutely. The extremely worrying thing about it is that A... moreWell the reality is 99 percent of people are brain dead.
They just follow and trust on the 1%.
This happening since mutation of humans i guess.
        Scientific prove is there too.
People used to think that the entire universe orbits the earth just 500 year ago but 500 year later they think earth is the one who orbits.
That proves people just like to trust and follow.
It's not a bad thing i would say but yes it is a fact.
And most people don't have enough resources to verify most of the things they trust or follow.
That's why they are in disadvantage.
I also belong to this same 99% category though.

Yuri84, 31 May 2025They don't give a damn what YOU want. They invested in... moreAbsolutely. The extremely worrying thing about it is that Apple succeeded in making the absolute worst version of that product the default for the vast majority. I fear that too few use their brains often and well enough for this AI nonsense to fail.

mzorrilla, 31 May 2025Nightmare. Will wait to know how to turn it offI don't think it's possible... Unless EU sue their a**!

they knew they can so have it you like in or not use service or look somewhere else then come back as every company is a 007 under the hood unless you do it yourself everything you use on web from own private network

All these AI junk are draining the battery.

Vale, 31 May 2025Why are they so convinced that people want this stuff? I... moreThey don't give a damn what YOU want. They invested insane amounts of money into AI, now they need to create a use case. So they will shove AI into your throat whether you need it or not, so that they can report they have "millions and billions of users using AI every day" (without mentioning this is a default setting and you can't turn it off).

Just like Apple that removed the headphone jack and created a product people would normally completely ignore given a choice - "ear buds" aka "disposable product with irreplaceable battery that dies in a couple of years and is very easy to lose and costs several times more than wired alternative while providing a lower level of quality of the SAME feature" (but you don't have a choice anyway).

Nothing unusual here, it's just greed.

Thank you google for not pushing this nonsense on a free user like me. Not yet, at least.

Why are they so convinced that people want this stuff? I've got Galaxy AI since last year and I only use circle to search, absolutely nothing else is useful

Oh thank god, I was afraid they were going to shove it down my throat, now I don't even have to turn it off.

Great! Now it can summaries long breakup emails into easy peasy pointers!

The fact that these companies are starting to force AI on us by default tells me that they've built more data centers than they know what to do with.
