Having the Dimensity 7400X at €799 makes no sense when other phones at that price use actual flagship processors. Yes, clamshells are for different folk who aren't gamers or heavy camera users, but still, for the price, I'd expect more than that.

Barry Egan, 06 Jun 2025oppo's foldable and flip phones are way more advanced ... moreThat message won't gain much traction here. Convince the people in China. They only seem to be interested in Huawei's foldables. Oppo hasn't released a flip since 2023 and it was likely due to low sales. That's the biggest mobile market in the world. It's not Samsung's fault they they can't capitalize. Samsung's foldables have not been relevant in China since 2023.

I was interested in folding phones until I realized how much compromising had to happen. For 600 USD, you can get a foldable with a plentiful screen, full stops, until you get to camera and chipset. The chipset is likely a potent midrange, like 7300X and 7s Gen 3, and cameras are lackluster/serviceable. Not the most good-looking camera but it will get what you want it to do done.

That being said, the Z Flip7 FE has something to prove: foldables can be cheap and good. They just have to employ actually good cameras and a potent midrange. It is in the 700-800 dollar price bracket and that's pretty competitive if you're not in the US.

Lot's of people prefer to buy a new FE (or similar at other brands) instead of taking last years offering. It's a psychology thing (like a fresh run at software and security updates, the latest OS version out of the box (although that's not always the case)...)

atichko, 06 Jun 2025Not necessarily pointless but this attempt at offering a mo... moreIt's pointless, with the Flip7's launch the Flip6 will be cheaper anyways, so rebranding that makes no sense, and if the Flip7 FE launches with the Exynos 2400e then it makes even more sense to just buy last year's Flip6.

oppo's foldable and flip phones are way more advanced than Sammy's 😎 they have better tech now

DarlingYext, 06 Jun 2025Completely pointless product, just get the Flip6, or a Moto Razr. Not necessarily pointless but this attempt at offering a more affordable Samsung flip phone might fail. Looking at the prices it's not cheap by any means and as you mentioned the Razr entry units, especially if you look for previous gen ones, are better and a little cheaper so...

After that I find out about third party screen protectors. I have applied mine (very easy process) around a year ago and have no problems since then.
I also heard that newer models dont have that problem (Z flip/fold 6)

Completely pointless product, just get the Flip6, or a Moto Razr.

OEMs are trying so hard to make this product sku work, the durability isn't there. The right innovations aren't available in mass adoption. The price to durability ratio is a nonstarter.

When will this foldable display tech die?

Unless you can produce a foldable display that is 99% regular glass and ~1% of this folding tech where it creases, I'm never buying a phone that a fingernail can cause damage.

I was huge fan of folding phones till Flip 5.

I have had Fold 1, 3 and then Flip 5 and with that Flip 5 that damn screen protector started to bubble in two months and you can get only one screen protector replacement for free and then if you do not remove it will eventually break the folding screen and if you do remove it you are out of warranty according to Samsung.

Of course you could just pay every few months for them to change the screen protector but honestly i am not going to get into that hassle with every few months that i would have to be without my phone for few days and use backup phone when screen protector gets replaced.

I have now Oneplus 12 and even thought it is bigger than Flip 5 and does not have huge screen like Fold series at least it will not either break or need constant screen protector changes.

Maybe it is time to get a flip phone, let's see what are the specifications and reviews when it arrives
