Foldables see lackluster Q1 growth in Europe, Samsung's lead shrinks

09 June 2025
Motorola edged out Honor as the second-leading brand in the region, while Tecno saw the highest growth.

Foldables will have a slow year in 2025 and Samsung will continue to lead sales just like counterpoint said. 2026 will be a bounce back year. Things could change. I still think the Pura X is wild card.

Of course their lead is shrinking, because so are their advantages, but their prices aren't.

Foldable. Hmm... Even if I was a different customer, why would I choose a foldable?

        1. Size could be one thing, but these end up fat and heavier anyways. I mean, compared to a small, light phone like S25, they're dead weight for no feature.

        2. Novelty could be one. But when the novelty wears off, it's not a useful feature as such.

        3. Shouting that it's expensive? Well, nothing screams expensive like the premium-most iPhone, but even then, I heard there was a midrange foldable at around $400 or so, can't recall the name.. so.

Towards the end, I truly love one foldable phone, my own LG G8x with dual screen from 2020. By the way, I removed the dual screen attachment and now I use it rarely only.

Just judging from the graph, looks like people like flips more than folds. If Honor and Oppo released flips in Europe then the top 3 will look very different

Honor V3 is the phone that made me the happiest in a long long time and i switched after many years of Samsung flagships. I can't see myself any more on non-foldables.
