Anonymous, 22 Jun 2025Sorry to burst your bubble, but the smaller companies chose... moreStill doesnt change the fact that past a certain point certain companies cant create anything useful any more and keep buying other companies that actually innovate. And the more they are overrated, the more money at disposal for the acquisitions.

Just look at facebook, its a fail after fail for 20 years now, but they got a lot of money and no real workers to pay, so they just keep buying companies that compete when the crazy projects of their ceo fail. And its not like Zuckerberg was particularly smart in the first place, he stole Facebook from his roomate and payed him off years later when money was no problem, using trickery of the Usa justice system to keep the case going on for years so that money amount became bearable.

So its just about business connections and availability of capital through banks and stocks. Of course smaller companies cant compete with that, they need real money, while Zuckerberg gets it freshly printed out of thin air against the inflated price of his stocks. Thats why he now offers 100 million bonuses to "AI" "experts".

ulv, 22 Jun 2025It happens everytime. Therefore, there's always innovation.Firms should be in a constant arms race, each trying to improve their products and prices to beat their competitors. Instead, the bigger older one just buys out the newer innovative one, because it threatens their business. That's not innovation

That’s how business works. The end goals of these companies are almost always to get acquired by a bigger company or a public listing.

Tragic state of capitalism, every time this happens there is less competition, less innovation. Shame on Apple and all anti competitive big tech

I hope Apple doesn't buy Perplexity.

They can work on their own AI projects. Perplexity is its own thing, and should continue to be.

I also don't like some aspects of perplexity, like being news aggregator-focused, but I wouldn't say it sucks.

I rather doubt this will happen as Samsung is becoming a major investor so if Apple gets serious Samsung will also.

Either way what this shows is that Apple is desperate and has no legit in house AI solutions.

AI caught Apple off guard! Hahaha! Google and Microsoft knew how to react in time! Microsoft should have taken advantage of this AI boom and revived Windows by basing it on AI or releasing a Copilot OS for mobile devices. But it's too late.

In the past, this kind of thing either wouldn't have been approved, or the big company that bought the smaller one would be split up. Voila, iTunes. So yeah, even the fundamental software for their major product, the iPod, was bought. 🤭 So no surprise here.
