Lower placement of the logo would only make sense when it's in the center of the bottom glass portion.

If this huge camera isle would have resulted in the actual cameras sitting flush with it then I would have said ok that's kind of nice. In this case it's a useless addition of material that will not improve wobbling at all. It's just there to hide the fact that they had no room to keep the flash and whatever near the camera combo. Nothing special, nothing new or refreshing, even not by Apple standards (who hasn't releases something really novel in the past decade).

As an old graphics designer, this isn't the reason. Reason is that it would be too top heavy with the upcoming wide camera area. It's just look right when they drop the logo to balance the back area.
