Weekly poll: do you still have your ringer on or is your phone on vibrate all the time?

10 August 2025
Companies still put a lot of effort into making bespoke ringtones for their phones - but actually hearing a phone ring is becoming a rare occurrence.

My first time participating in a poll since forever. Am one of the biggest collectors of Ringtones since that was a thing. Ayears ago I couldn't use any ringtone and hate the phone ringing add to that hating switching between Ringing on & off (church, school, including work since I hate noise so I hate it for others) so I went full silent. Can't take noise, taking into account that my phone ain't as busy as other people!

One of the very first things I do when I get a new phone is to set my own custom ringtones(My current ringtone is the oshi no ko opening theme). And I have custom ringtones for some of my important contacts. But when I'm in church, my phone is on silent& dnd sometimes I even turn it off

Ringer and notification sounds on, vibrate on for me most of the time. The only time I put my phone on silent (no sounds but still vibrate) is when in I'm in church service.

Been using custom ringtones since forever. I currently use Nokia Tune on Samsung phone since nowadays the tune is rare and different enough from most default ringtones of today.

i used to work for nokia (1997-2012) and turned off my ringer very early, 2004 or so... and since the apple watch, my watch tells me silently any type of notifications and calls. even though i only let whatsapp/IG, japanese baseball results and phone through.

Ringer + vibration on when at home and outdoors, vibration-only while at work. I've used custom ringtones since before smartphones were a thing and will keep doing so for the foreseeable future, but nowadays mostly because I don't want to wonder if it's my phone among the crowd that's ringing.

Does gsmarena.com have nothing more useful things to do than to conduct this non-useful poll? It's like every week, they have to come up with something to poll. :0

I've been on team custom since I moved on from BlackBerry.

Modern ringtones are either too bubbly, tingly, realistic, etc. I dunno. It's like everyone follows the same walkthrough. Maybe that's why the instruments are all similar.

My notification tone has been (old) MIUI's "Fade In", pitch-shifted to preference, and prepended by a two-second delay to simulate a ring-after-vibrate.

                    My ringtone is—a guilty pleasure.

It's frustrating when every phone rings with the same default tone, and you see everyone scrambling to check if it's theirs. The same thing happens with the default Viber notification.

Another thing that annoys me is how hard it is to reach someone on the first try these days. Everyone seems to have their phone on silent, which defeats the purpose of having a phone in the first place.

Since I have hearing problems, I usually use flash notifications because it's somehow the most practical way for me to know when someone is calling me, whether my phone's ringer is on or muted.

I use custom ringtones, and keep changing them along with wallpapers to keep the setup feel fresh. But I also have specific ringtones for specific people that stay constant so I can recognize imp calls instantly. I try to automate the switch between ringer, vibrate and mute as much as I can using dnd/bedtime mode and automation but there's a shortcut on lockscreen to switch manually when needed. I personally think smartwatches are useless and fitness data is more useful for companies than yourself.
