I will tell you only solution to this story. Most of comments complain a lot and give advices that are unrealistic. Using Ericsson since t610. I've learned a lot about digital world and that led me to understand human civilization. If you read a book "Bitcoin standard" you will understand how Sony can survive. Then you will value more what they produce in current times. I've waited compact for a last 3y. Xz2c had 2 issues but it was acceptable. Seeing market situation i decided to get used XC-54 1VI for 700euro. Its killing. Camera is better than s24ultra tested. Miles better. And how you can customize base android with minimal bloat.. backside texture to mention design. just sony making excellent candybar.

While other flagship phones have much larger tele-sensors, Xperia 1 is still sticking with a tiny 1/3.5" sensor, which makes its telecamera almost unusable in low light.
After all, the Xperia 1 lines has always been promoted as THE multimedia phone, cabaple of state of the art imagery and video recording.
The gliding tele lens however, arguably provides worse performance than all other flagships from competitors. And this has been the case for years now.
Look, I am a huge Sony fan, as I love the SDXC card extension and the analog audio jack. But Sony has been struggling in the camera department for years now and I fail to see any substantial efforts to advance in this regard.

They should change the front display with punch hole camera and minimum corners.
The second thing they should do to reduce the price.
After this if they don't sale then take all the amount from me.

They need something special to be unique (hardware of software) and reasonable price to compete. Hope Sony still make it play again on budget phone, miss my Xperia era

"Sony Group CFO Sue Lin said that Xperia is “a very important business for us”
This statement couldn't be farther away from the truth. The Xperia line has literally been starved and neglected, no significant efforts in development and refinement have been made in the last few years. Every new iteration was one more disappointment after disappointment.
Comparing the Xperia 1 from this year with its predecessors, one might assume, that Sony is paying maybe 3 people or so to work on that line. That's how small the improvements are.
Sony better be serious about Xperia and put some serious money into R&D, or else there will be no more Xperia.

You know what the Sony Xperia problem is? I think they try to compete with Apple iPhones, their price is almost the same but their difference lies with their marketing. No hype anymore - they think their brand its own will do but that's not how it works. Sony midrange phones can't even get par with other Mid-rangers out there. You can't compete with iPhone if you're using Android with your device. Sony can't even branch out their name like what other manufacturers do (example BBK). Last thing, who would wanna buy professional camera from a phone that is supposed to be more portable and hundred times easier to capture, ofc that's something ultra premium and only very few will buy it. What about midrangers??? Sony needs to branch out honestly so they can cut costs and earn more.

Feels like Sony is fighting a silent war against companies that don't like innovation and just slap larger bulky sensors on their devices to win a YouTube battle.
Look at the ridiculousy hideous phones back side with overly thick camera bumps.
Where did the SD card slot go on other devices?
What happened to the 3,5mm headphone jack?
I never wanted that horrendous cutout on the display for a camera I rarely use. These decisions made by companies to cut down on costs.
I love the beautiful professional calibration of the Sony screen, the bezels with the well balanced stereo speaker are superb. Great on them for trying new things to improve their design like ribbed frame and textured glass.
Sony isn't for the Fortnite children streamers that want over edited photos and loud but tinny sound.

"Very important business for us", which is why we will continue treating out Xperia software development team like trash so that our Xperia customers can enjoy the OS experience worse than on a 100 dollar Doogee phone
