DarlingYext, 14 Aug 2025The thing is, regular every day people don't just watc... moreI'm still inclined to disbelieve that many people will make that unreasonable assumption.
However, we both agree that there needs to be clearer communication of the methodology of the endurance rating so that it is interpreted correctly. I think we can conclude our current discussion with that.

RaviSS, 14 Aug 2025I'd argue the opposite and say that the protocol that ... moreThe thing is, regular every day people don't just watch tests of every phone, or rather any to begin with so the number the EU give them won't be compared to anything.
"..I imagine very few people would be in the habit and continuously using their phones for hours on end."
That's likely true, however if the sticker would show for example 8 hours of screen-on time for a device, and the user knows that they aren't a heavy user they could easily know that said phone can last them 2-3 days, whereas the usual 40 hours on most devices is completely misleading as the same user would think that with their usage the phone could last 10-12 days on one charge, and that's something that's not happening.

DarlingYext, 13 Aug 2025Well, most people do, and I think it makes sense why. There... moreI'd argue the opposite and say that the protocol that EU ratings use are much more representative of the 'battery experience' of a typical user as compared to continuous active use tests that are prevalent, as I imagine very few people would be in the habit and continuously using their phones for hours on end.
For most people, during one discharge cycle, the phone would be in standby mode for several hours and will go through multiple 'wake--active use--standby(display on)--awake(display off)-deep sleep' cycles, and the period apart from active use would account for a significant part of battery consumption. So a testing protocol which accounts for these stages is more relevant imo.
In any case, there are several sources from where the data on active use endurance can be obtained - including every Tom, Dick & Harry doing tests on youtube (it's another matter that most of these youtube tests are so unscientific that they are borderline useless). While there are very few sources which do tests for mixed use (DXOMark's battery tests are quite good but they test very few devices).
So, in my opinion, these endurance numbers from EU ratings are certainly great to have, and even though many readers might be confused by what the number means exactly, it's a great comparison tool that would certainly help readers get an accurate idea of the difference in endurance of two devices in real-life scenario.
I guess one way to comprehend the absolute numbers would be to 'adjust' these numbers by degree of use - with a divisor ranging from 1-2x. For example, if the endurance rating for a certain device is 48 hours, a light user will be able to get around 2 days out of one full charge, a moderate user around 1.5 days, and a heavy user around 1 day.

RaviSS, 13 Aug 2025I wonder how anybody would in their right mind will believe... moreWell, most people do, and I think it makes sense why. There is no benefit to mentioning a time that a device can last if it's not active use score, they could say it lasts weeks and would still be right, as most phones can last multiple weeks if they are turned on, but are in airplane mode with wifi turned off and aren't used at all.
What the EU should do is mention mixed active use score.

DarlingYext, 12 Aug 2025"It's not 42 hours of active use... "
Of ... moreI wonder how anybody would in their right mind will believe that a phone can last 40+ hrs of continuous use, as it is multiple times higher than what anybody would observe while using their own phone.
Though I do admit that a more prominent mention of how the endurance number is arrived at would be helpful for the reader to understand it better. Something like - '20% mixed active use time + 80% standby time'.

I was looking forward to upgrade my Tab S7+ with Tab S11 ultra ( if I get a good deal ).
How can they downgrade the charging cycle count from 2000 ( in the Tab S10 Ultra ) to 1200 in the tab S11 Ultra . ? What incentive does it give us to upgrade then ?

Of course... more"You forgot to mention that despite a 200mAh reduction the S25 FE has 2.5 times more recharge cycles 2000 v 800"
I forgot to mention absolutely nothing, as that doesn't matter, 75% battery health on the Realme GT7 would mean 4875mAh, which is still more than 100% battery health on the supposed 4500mAh in the upcoming S25 FE, that's how bad it is.
"Do you think people OUT THERE will understand if they wander here?"
Do you think it's good that people who don't know much about tech, now get a misleading battery life number as well? On the sticker it says it NOWHERE what the hour number is about, and people DO assume it's active use, I work in the EU with phones around me, and unfortunatelly that's the way it is.

Of course it's not, which is why it's completely pointless and misleading. MOST BUYERS THINK that it is active use time, people on this site may not, but people out there do."' 😱
What People? ***
First, as a reminder, we now list EPREL info in our specs when they become available.
You're the one who cannot CUT information from an article / impartial review and PASTE accurately into comments despite it being sourced on this very site.
If you have that problem, then don't speak for anyone as you can't speak for yourself
Say the majority of E.U. don't visit Gsmarena they have EPREL, if it is important they can see and compare a standardised test score simplicity displayed across the EU
*** GSMarena Battery endurance is made up of Calls/Web/ Video to get to an overall figure (which if you dispute)
Only the review has the overall figure. A very high percentage of people won't know any single component of their devices.
Do you think people OUT THERE will understand if they wander here?
Your go-to now is Realme for battery-related comparison
"As expected the S25 FE gets a below average battery life rating, due to the small battery it's going to have. Not that the 42 hours means anything, as no phone can truly last that long, but it's definitely less battery life than what the Realme devices rated at ~80 hours can achieve

Battery life seems good on the Tab S11 ultra but they are cheaping out on the Charging Cycle. ( although it is much better than the 500 charging cycles of my Tab S7+ ) But If I wanna keep my expensive Ultra Tab for around 7 years, it is gonna be a problem as it will lose around 20% of its battery capacity post 3.5 Yrs.

DarlingYext, 11 Aug 2025As expected the S25 FE gets a below average battery life ra... moreIt's not 42 hours of active use... The protocol has 80% of standby time and 20% or active use (calls/browsing/video playback etc). Extrapolating to 24 hrs, that's 4.8 hours of active use, which would be close to the use case of a light user.
I have a Pixel 8, and although it's endurance is not tested, I'd expect it to be close to 45 hours (as Pixel 9 has 49.2 hours). With light usage, it does last close to 2 days, matching the above number. With moderate use however, the endurance varies between 30-36 hours.

You say the S25 FE "only" lasts 37 minutes longer than the S24 FE. But that's with what is rumored to be a 200 mAh smaller battery as well as a thinner and around 20g lighter body. That's a win in my book.
