Since in US phones are heavily subsidized by carriers, every two or three years you can get a new flagship phone almost for free by trading in your old phone. I am not sure if they accept OnePlus or Sony, but brands like oppo, vivo, and Huawei are not eligible for trade-in.

Very few foreign phones will support essential frequencies like Bands 12/13/14/17 (700MHz), let alone Band 71 (600MHz). And even if the frequencies are supported, you're still screwed if your carrier is AT&T with their IMEI whitelisting (Verizon and especially T-Mobile are better in this regard).
