Look around the world and see how many conflicts and potential conflicts there are. More weapons are being produced and exported than ever before (except during the Cold War).
China is now the world's largest industrial producer, bigger than the US. The only thing the US is achieving with this is that China is becoming independent of American technology much faster than planned, so they are achieving exactly the opposite of what they wanted. They are only delaying independence by a few years, but are inspiring the Chinese to work much faster and with even more resources to become independent of the Americans.

Anonymous, 31 Aug 2025I don't understand why a company needs licenses from a... moreI may be wrong, but AFAIK, the government does not own the patents or products themselves if they were produced privately, but the government can and will introduce new laws to control if said products are manufactured(whether partially or completely), imported, or used in any way in their country.

So in this example, the US government can't seize or control Samsung's foundries or technologies which weren't made in the USA(although I'm sure they would love to), but they can control if Samsung manufactures stuff in their country(the USA) or to their people(Americans). They can't outright force Samsung to stop trading with China or making foundries there or doing any business with them, but they can threaten to ban them in the US and so cut off a massive share of their market. This is exactly what they are doing, and while it is a sneaky and roundabout way of doing things, it eventually achieves the same goal(Samsung stops working with China) and is an extremely scummy and disgraceful move and a blatant abuse of power.

Unfortunately, power is the name of the game and while it is true that we are living in the most peaceful time in human history, it's because governments and companies realised it's better for everyone if we work together and combine our forces. Rather than war, which kills millions, destroys entire nations, economies, families, cultures and more(in short, it ruins everyone and everything) and damages even the victor, economic sanctions and embargoes are far less costly, easier to place and remove, and best of all, are far less damaging to all parties. As an example, you need only look at countries that have been ostracised by the US and isolated from the global economy, such as North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran etc. They are more or less crippled, extremely backwards and cannot rise without global assistance.

I don't understand why a company needs licenses from a different country to produce something in another country.
Misusing patents in order to influence global economy should be banned.

Moreover, why is the government deciding on such things and not companies themselves? Does the government hold these patents? I am seriously asking because all I am hearing in the news is "democracy" and "freedom".

Samsung will just replace all US made equipment in their production facilities. Pretty sure SMIC has already done that. US is scoring own goals left and right.
