Here's how the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold will fold

05 September 2025
It will be different compared to Huawei's Mate XT and Mate XTs.

As you write, without a separate outer screen, even a tri-fold can be thin enough. As for protection of the exposed folding edge, Huawei designed a case. Had I the money, I would definitely go for the XT / XTs.

Anonymous, 06 Sep 2025Would you prefer this or having to spend $1,000 on a screen... moreYou're gonna have to pay that money for a screen replacement anyways. Its well known that samsung's foldables are the weakest foldables out there lmao

This is the best way for folding phones until the folding screen can be as strong as gorilla glass with scratches at level 6 instead of 2.

Why screen on the middle part than on the closing side and camera on middle.
As long as the inner screen can get as strong as outer/normal huawei design has better usability like phone/half tab/full tablet instead of phone/full tablet g fold. But for todays inner tech G fold is practical.

I understand having an outer screen exposed like the Mate XT is risky. Especially if you are traveling, but I still think there is a huge advantage to a three panel foldable that can fold out to two panels. One advantage to Samsung's design is you can fold the bottom of the screen and use that portion as a keyboard since the camera module is in the middle.

hannor, 06 Sep 2025Huawei's solution is way superior IMHOWhat part is superior? Huawei xts has the soft screen exposed to daily impacts due to replacing a gorilla glass cover screen. One folding edge of the soft screen replaces a bezel and takes all side impacts. 2 hinges fold in opposite directions so, it is always prone to folding with a wrong folding order. Xts costs less and easier to make thinner by skipping a second screen. Besides, xt's hinges were so fragile as jerryrigeverything broke it with a moderate force.

Tri-fold screens open the way for a pocketable tablet with a normal 16x10 aspect ratio, just like any typical Android tablet. I always maintain that the squarish foldable phone is just a bridge towards the tri-fold future.

Sazmsung, 06 Sep 2025I think the back camera and back screen should switch place... moreYeah that would be a more logical thing to do, as it makes it more natural to unfold the phone from phone mode to tablet mode.

Why is it called Tri fold when there are actually only 2 folds ?

But today we laugh at people dumb enough to buy tri-fold's that have more downsides than upsides

Huawei's solution is way superior IMHO

I don't see the need of this Tri-Fold of a thing, there's Tab, Z-fold, then what is the need of the Tri-Fold?
For me it does not have future, The only thing I can say is that technology is advancing that's all.

this is innovation with common sense!!

I know which one I'd pick. Yes, there's no middle ground normal foldable option, but who wants a square screen anyway? Square screens are only useful for multitasking. Everything else gets put in an ugly window with empty bars either side that make it no bigger than a normal phone screen anyway.

So effectively there will be no continuity of display, once we start unfolding we also have to rotatw the whole thing because bigger screens are on the other side.
