sors, 09 Sep 2025So, do smartphone companies now start making ugly phones li... moreI think the base 17 looks very, very nice and cute, same for the 16 last year, the Pro and Pro Max look terrible as always due to their gigantic size, even more with this horrible camera bump. Phone design peaked with S21 and A5/73 from Samsung, which had in my opinion the smoothest looking camera bumps ever, since then for me it's only been a downhill in design. I hate big phones so much it's unreal, Apple being basically the only company in the world still sticking to 6.5, 6.3, 6.1 inches is enough for them to gain my sympathy, and I've never liked Apple.

In the keynote they s... moreThe base iPhones look very good in my opinion, same for the base 16, but the Pro and Pro Max as always look horrible, Apple last year somehow made the Pro Maxes even uglier by increasing the size, phones weren't ever meant to be bigger than 6.5 inches. Phone design peaked with S21 and A5/73 series from Samsung, which had the smoothest bumps, since then things have just been getting worse every single year.

You are doing your math wrong. If it is 15 to 20, then it is 33.33% as you have mentioned. But if it is 15% to 20%, then that is just 5% increase.

The effective lens diameter of the periscope camera should be roughly 5.8mm. That's not really class-leading, there are phones with 1.0cm.

It seems like a decent incremental upgrade (Not A19 Pro - The CPU is only 4-5% faster than A18 Pro, since Apple claims that it's 20% faster than A17 Pro, whereas A18 Pro was 15% faster than A17 Pro). The 48MP telephoto camera was long overdue, but I'm glad that Apple has at least decided to bring it. Substantially better cooling and longer battery life are really appreciated as well.
But holy bloody s*** that's one ugly looking back.. I know we'll get used to this design eventually, but still..
