Snapdragon 8 ELITE (omit Gen 4 Tetraphobia)****
####Snapdragon 8 Elite (now INCLUDE) Gen 5
**** ELITE signifies Oryon SoC and that is it ELITE IS NOT A GEN
#### The day before announcing Qualcomm could have avoided this by just going to Snapdragon 8 Elite 2
Elite is a name only if pursued that then disconnects numerics S range from the Gen
Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and 8S Gen 5

LosEstupido, 19 Sep 2025true that

Eventually, the numbers will run out but when they start using the 8 Gen name I thought it sounds cool. Then they finally decide to call the next SoC as Elite instead, most probably because they start to using custom cores and that's where the Elite name might standout because the performance difference is huge according to Qualcomm(Same case with Samsung skip then 11th number and start using S/Note 20 name.).
Now Qualcomm comes up with 8 Elite Gen 5 name... Oh well...
The 8s Gen series honestly much more confusing to me because we have 7+ Gen series which probably more suitable for the upper premium range segment, there's still number 6and 4 in their list.

I honestly prefer generational numbering if anything, I mean what goes after 888? 898 (rumored 8 Gen 1 name btw)? 8100 (thats just ripping off mediatek)? they had to do this since they were running out of numbers to slap on their SoCs.
I can honestly see mediatek doing the same by naming their SoCs "Dimensity 9 Gen 1" since they'll also eventually run out of numbers, either that or they can pull an intel/amd and confuse us more by naming their SoCs "Dimensity AI 9+ 195" or sm like that
apart from that, it's indeed confusing.
Completely Ignoring the "s" suffix issue happening with lower end snapdragon SoCs, Calling it just "Snapdragon 8 Elite" without any generational numbering is just silly + it's probably also marketing hype and parity with X Elite.
and Speaking of that article, I'm pretty sure Snapdragon X CPUs will either be called "Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2" or (worst case scenario) "Snapdragon X Elite Gen 5", the latter is gonna be REALLY confusing especially for someone who only follows PC/Laptop News and not Phone News.

Not a series, really? That's very interesting, so why does the 8s Gen 4 have a predecessor then?
https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=13875&idPhone2=12888
Just look at this link again, one device uses the 8s Gen 3, while the other is using the 8s Gen 4, so yes it is absolutely a series. Oh, and regardless of it being just a single product, or an entire series it still has the number 4 in its name and is sold in Chinese devices in China as well, so tetraphobia clearly doesn't matter here.
Anyways, if you couldn't understand my analogy about Sharp making Sense, while you aren't, well that's completely your fault not mine.

Qualcomm is an AMERICAN brand, not one from East Asia, so they aren't affected by tetraphobia in any way.

You are trying so hard, and keep failing so much it's not even funny. Do you honestly think Xiaomi cares about tetraphobia? They don't btw.

Just look at these two phones, one called Civi 4 Pro, which clearly has 4 in its name, while the Civi 5 Pro uses the 8s Gen 4, which also has 4 in its name.

I Just Read is right, 16 Sep 2025"Essentially, it's just an ability to count"... more8s gen 4 honestly is probably a bigger deal to Xiaomi and Oppo since they'll move more units of those than the 8 elite models. And 8s gen 4 is broadly advertised during phone announcements due to most buyers being quite performance driven.
Anyway tetra phobia isn't a thing for Qualcomm it isn't even a thing for Xiaomi with their MI 4s and note 14s.

Because Xiaomi, BBK, etc. didn't say e.g. want to compete with Apple or Samsung, FLAGSHIP SoC in their FLAGSHIP phone in October 2024. Qualcomm didn't forget they were aware hence the name.
Now, did you expect them to wait until Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 April 02 2025 which by the way is a single item product, according to vocabulary NOT A SERIES.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset (article) digressing to 8S Gen 4 is desperation to score something not relevant, NOT FLAGSHIP and not October 2024. Only you mentioned Sharp
It's not conducive for me to carry on this monologue as I've already made my point correctly multiple times

Foxtrot2Novmbr, 16 Sep 2025Nope. It's not Marketing. It's been decades that ... moreIt is marketing. To quote Intel "bigger number better".
So that's why they skip numbers. If you don't keep track, you'll get fooled that this new device is a few generations newer than the last, while there's only a year between them.
It is purposefully misleading.

Like how Apple Skipped the Number 9.
Or the Samsung Skipping 11 to 19.
Or the iOS skipping the Number 19 to 25.
Or the Android Skipped the Letter Q to Z. And start using Numbers as the Android Version.
Companies don't suddenly do this Skipping Nonsense unless something bad did happen.

There was only one Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC so far, so that's either Gen 1, or a special chipset, not Gen 4 somehow, as there were no 8 Elite chipsets before it.
