If you se... moreThis completely ignores the facts that only a small chunk of that money is actually profit for Sony, well over half of it goes into material costs, labor costs, R&D costs, and advertising costs, all of which are elevated because of the fact that they are doing it on such a small scale compared to other manufacturers. Multiply that by multiple models every year, and development costs continue to rise.
While I can't do any sort of accurate math simply because we don't have access to the numbers, Sony can't be making more than 10-20% profit on their phones. comparatively, most companies are able to make well over 35% profit per smartphone.

So the compact phone becomes less and less compact. Huge disappointment for me. Sadly, this makes me abandon Sony completely now.

I love sony phones, they don't intrude like Samsung. They are simple and easy to use with advanced features. I am disappointed they didn't persue this because at one point you had erricsson and Nokia, and Sony bought Erricsson, producing many really cool phones in the years afterwards.

There is no way sony makes any profit from selling smartphones, especially with how few sales they have, so my question is why do they still produce them? there's gotta be something deeper involved, perhaps some type of money laundering scheme

Sony phones are always priced higher than the competition. And for what? Just because they give SD cards and headphone jack in 2025. I stopped using these long ago.
I rather have a good specs phone and a good software phone, than SD card and headphone jack.

I already bought the phone I will get it tomorrow.. I am so convinced about the phone just price is not fair it would be nicer if it was 100 euro less.. Like 350 euro 👍👍. And I just found out today the SC card is about 50 euro for 256 GB.. 😅. So 500. Ik Sony. I took the risk.. We will see tomorrow what will happen.

I always get flagships. So I picked i don't buy midrangers.
There's nothing wrong with it i suppose, but there's no comparison to mine. But calling it different when it's just a different camera bump is wild.

Seems interesting for a budget phone, but not any better than my old a52s. And not cheap enough to consider on a budget, imho.
It's nice to see headphone jack, though. And microSD.

The phone has lot of advantages in full of generic same looking phones, Sony has it's own philosophy and that is good.
Personally almost ideal phone beacuse:
- flat screen (19.5:9 is better than 21:9 because most of the use is reading and wider screen is appreciated, 18:9 would be even better), for youtube videos also
- front stereo speakers
- headphone jack
- microSD slot
- no punch hole
- relatively compact design and weight in today's terms
- 4 OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches
- clean OS
- plastic look and IP rated, harder to break
- upgraded cameras
The only problem is that it does not have radio, and good IPS LCD would be appreciated.
And the price... if it is 100 euros cheaper, max 350 euros, it is too expensive. Will wait to see if the price fall down. Availability is also a possible issue.
