It's primarily Google's fault, updates should work regardless of manufacturer and users should be able to uninstall install any app they want.

Isn't it odd, that from the time Rapid7 found the vulnerability and contacted OnePlus (May), OnePlus has split off it's entire "US" user account base to a supposedly "US" based server? And only responding to a "public" vulnerability announcement in September?
That code was deliberate and didn't belong there, it should make people think?

The likelihood of being impacted from this is low. People use outdated phones, routers, and haven't updated passwords in 5-10+ years... And have been fine. Security issues are overblown and get people way too worried for no reason.
