T-Mobile’s move to expand T-Satellite support is a great step forward. It’s exciting for APK platforms like ours, as it means better access and performance even in remote areas.

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2025Do networks of the future be based purely on direct satelli... moreIt's very unlikely, the cost of satellite solutions is orders of magnitude higher than traditional antennas at the same bandwidth (=number of devices connected, multiplied by the speed available for each device simultaneously).
And we're not even talking about the cost of maintenance, launching rockets is a bit more expensive than sending a truck with a crane to repair an antenna.

Just to correct the record, only people on the top tier T-Mobile plans from the past few years get satellite service included. Everyone else (which is the majority of people on the network, since you can keep a grandfathered plan for as long as you want) need to pay an extra $10/$15 per month depending on when they signed up. And this is after T-Mobile promised it would be free for all customers, on any device.

Do networks of the future be based purely on direct satellite communications and without terrestrial network?
