I guess if they're giving 200MB free it's more for advertising and getting the word out about T-Mobile, then profiting from purchases in this area, and other areas of the business.

You shouldn't really be using free unencrypted public wi-fi's with any device. Anyone can steal your passwords and data. If they're encrypted, then it's a bit better. I'd still never use anything but corporate wi-fi's, but then again, I've got unlimited 4G data and I use it about 5-8gigs a month.

Typical dataplan in Finland has 21Mbit/s in 3G network for 17,5$/month and no limits for transferred data. 4G 50Mbit/s unlimited data 20$/month and 4G 150Mbit/s unlimited 27$/month.

iPad is expensive so most buy the wifi only because the download limits makes 4G unusable anyway!

Download data must be unlimited! Why use 4G when the limited download data makes it impossible to actually use that high speed for streaming movies...!
I have unlimited 3G data 6 Mbit/s, for less than 20 $/month, and that is more than fast enough to stream full hd adobe flash movies and TV on my Galaxy S3, Dolphin Browser, and use my phone to USB-tether my laptop!

Here's the thing though, T-Mobile takes $10 off if you already have cell phone service through them. That makes it $20 for 2.5 GB
