26 November 2025
A flagship-level chip that’s set to debut on the OnePlus Ace 6T/15R.

I don't care about the naming, all I'm hoping is that it can actually sustain it's performance like 8 Gen 3 did or even 865. Both 8 Elite and 8 Elite Gen 5 overheat like crazy, I hope Qualcomm has done something about that

so far 8 gen 2/870/860/845 is the Qc's most sustainable flaship soc ever created, they should just keep performance same for 8 gen/elite 5. Mobile soc power already pass through the roof, we just need better efficiency while improved the nodes. Heck these soc peak par on lunar lake based tdp while traped on small body area.

You'd need Pepe Silva and three miles of red yarn to explain what Qualcomm is up to these days.

Relative performance of different snapdragon chips as per marketing materials

        Chip - CPU - GPU
        8G3 - 100 - 100
        8G5 - 136 - 111
        8E - 145 - 140
        8EG5 - 174 - 172

So 8G5 CPU is ~6% slower than 8E while GPU is ~20% slower.

compared to 8EG5, 8G5 has ~22% slower CPU and ~35% slower GPU.

So cpu is like 8 Elite and GPU is like iPhone 17

8s gen 5 is the flagship killer, killer

if 8 gen 5 is a flagship killer chip, then 8s gen x is what?

YUKI93, 26 Nov 2025They don't, actually. I don't think the name has anything to do with the new cores looking at the Snapdragon X series that uses custom cores in the Plus and base model too.

They better make chip with good 8 gen 2 level stability because Elite Gen 5 is crazy hot and running like Gen 1

Anonymous, 26 Nov 2025They skipped 4. I know China is scared of 4 but what about ... moreThey don't, actually. There's also 8s Gen 4, 7 Gen 4, and 6 Gen 4. The 8 Elite was meant to be called 8 Gen 4, but Qualcomm wanted to showcase the all-new in-house Oryon CPU for mobile SoC.

Also, the 8s series always utilizes Arm's Cortex CPU instead of in-house Oryon CPU. If Qualcomm uses in-house Oryon CPU for 8s series, I'd totally agree with you as it creates even more confusion than before.

DaFink, 26 Nov 2025'flagship-killer chip' eh 🤔...so aimed right at i... moreIkr. If this chip uses Arm C1 CPU instead of in-house Oryon CPU, it would be totally understandable to go for 8 Elite Gen 5. But with both 8 Gen 5 and 8 Elite Gen 5 uses in-house Oryon CPU, I'm not sure if more OEM will go for the hotter Elite chip after this.

Given that this chipset is all too similar with the 8 Elite Gen 5 with the only major difference being the clock speed, I don't doubt we'll see more smartphone with this chipset instead of the hotter Elite chipset. I won't be surprised in the slightest if Sony opted for this chipset instead of 8 Elite Gen 5 for the next Xperia 1 VIII.

No phones with this SoC has even been released.
                                  Comment section: It sucks!

Nope. SD 8s Gen 5 should be compared to its direct predecessor, the 8s Gen 4. Qualcomm buys themselves a leeway and comparing SD 8 Gen 5 to 8 Gen 3 because there isn't a direct comparison (SD 8 Elite being the benchmark against 8 Elite Gen 5).

Another way to decipher this is SD 8 Gen 5 is a bit slower, but still comparable, to SD 8 Gen Elite of last gen. Understandable since now they're using 2 big + 6 small Oryon cores on the 8 Gen 5 instead of 2 small + 6 big on the 8 Elite.

The overview page for the Poco F8 Ultra claims a dual-cell battery, which only makes their position worse. It also claims 1600 cycles to 80% as opposed to the 1000 cycles in the EU's leaflet. I believe it's because they can be more lax in their marketing.
