Anonymous, 26 Oct 2013That's news to everyone. So the US has 4G but not LTE? So... moreHaha. Exactly.

I think the problem here is that most people are non-technical and, carrier and country locking aside, think they can take any phone they use in their home country that is 4g-LTE enabled and use it where ever they go. Doesn't work that way. You have to consider the frequency bands and the phone hardware.

Especially so in the US. Phone manufacturers come out with US specific models not just to support the branding, but the mis-mash of how 4g and LTE is implemented in the US.

Best example of this is the spread spectrum implementation of 4g on T-Mobile's network.

AnonD-100398, 26 Oct 2013Samsung do still have any other reason for not giving S800 ... morePARAG - This is the strategy of both Samsung and Sony. If the majority of carriers and subscribers do not have access to 4g they don't offer the 4g capable version of the phone in that country. It's not just India where this is happening.

I can tell you that one person I know who works in Samsung's regional sales & marketing has said this is a problem because they see sales going to other brands who are not using this strategy (LG G2 is the example he used.

Call the Samsung country office and complain. If enough people do the same they will listen.

The US is to big and places with low population densities just aren't worth the investment. And, Duh! Your friend works at a call center. The place people call when they have problems. No wonder he hears so many complaints about people not getting service. And, Duh! Your friend works for Sprint. They've got the worst service in the US. Their 3G is barely useable, forget about whatever they call 4G.

T-mobile tried to call their HSDPA+ network 4G, but even they switched over to LTE. ATT, Verizon, TMobile have LTE. Not sure about Sprint and their WiMax debacle, no one really pays attention to them anyway. Your speeds are going to depend on how many people are on the network, but with the carriers investment in LTE now, they can more easily ramp up speed in the future if they have the backhaul.

So, in your mind, what's the difference between 4G and LTE? (I think, technically, no one has 4G now, except maybe S. Korea's LTE-A, but I'd like to hear your explanation)

Also, the last info I read says that only just over 50% of India will have LTE coverage by 2018 (barring any delays). So it will probably be a while before India has anything comparable to the US network.
