"All you need to do is sign a two year deal with the carrier" committing to a two year contract would not be under my understanding of "..all you need to do...". Careful; in your wording or you will sound like you are their advertising pawns

u set up a ghost line with new contract, get the phone for free, then cancel the contract and move phone over to your existing verizon plan, or any other cdma carrier. canceling cost $350, so u end up paying $350 for phone instead of $500+

Yes, is FREE but the catch is your stuck with them for 2 years of pain that will cost you at least $90 a month + taxes and hidden charges ( on a limited plan ) meaning NOT unlimited call/text/ 4gb of web :)

50$ is still quite expensive for a 2 year contract, could get the G2 free here in UK for 25£ on a 2 year contract.
