In my opinion phones dont necessarily need to be made of metal to look premium (Nokia uses plastic but they are the best in market in terms of quality) . Its not just about materials its also about how individual components are brought together into one single unit .

Watch out Samsung. Apple will try to sue you if you call it S5. Apple think they have patented 5 and S.

Samsung must not make a flagship smartphone bigger than 5.2 inches, otherwise it enters notes area, gap must not be less than 0.7 inches between S series and note.

AnonD-134749, 22 Nov 2013so finaly. samsung fan boys will stop saying that metal pho... moreUnlike Apple or HTC , Samsung actually offers choice for consumers.

They don't force you to buy waterproof by pushing that in flagship.

There will be versions and line-ups of the same devices.

S4 has S4 active , S4 Zoom etc. lot of variants.

Some People interested in poor signal causing aluminium phones in favor of their nice external designs and how it feels in hand.

people interested in strong signal and don't care about design go for plastic and also light weight , durable and cheap to replace back covers as well.

What most people fail to realize is that having a metal frame actually reduces the chance that your phone will survive a drop... This is because metal transfers force a lot more than say... plastic or even rubber.

Add to that the fact that the metal increases the overall weight of a phone and the fact that it's prone to dents and scratches (the back of the HTC One is a good example).

A good phone will be one with a metal bezel that connects to rubberized plastic (such type of plasticity can be seen on the new curved beauty by LG) With a gorilla glass back and front (imagine Sony).

Also now that we have wireless transfer and charging... why not get rid of all input ports on a phone, would make for a much nicer cleaner look. Also touch sensitive discrete buttons.

These ideas are by no means original, the reason why most companies haven't actually gone through with these stuff is because the intentional MTBF rule... Basically put, a manufacturer constructs a device with intentional malfunctions so as to make it obsolete in 2-3 years.

For example, Apple phones have a higher than average build quality, but because of this, they hold back on innovation. It's not as if they can't put out a phone with similar specs to a Galaxy Note III.

The opposite is also true for Samsung for example. Their build quality is average but they innovate hardware wise because they stand by the idea that a user would generally want to "refresh" their phone every 2-3 years to get all those latest techs.

All this is much more apparent when you compare PC's to Mac's.

Anyway... in conclusion! This metal frame (if the rumor is real) is just a result of people crying out over how Samsung uses plastic (NOTICE! - crying out as in... just because they use plastic, not because this has resulted in any actual defects whilst using the device). If they release it i'm sure there will still be people around bitching about the phone being too heavy or too ruggish...

Doesn't look like the design samsung would go with unless there's a special reason of course. However, 3.5 mm jack at the bottom and micro usb slit just wide enough for a 2.0 version doesn't seem right for S5's design. Might be true for F series. F could just turn out to be a heavier, stronger, waterproof but slower version of samsung's sub flagships. Sure doesn't seem like a design for S5.

This is not Samsung S5, the measurements are too big.

Lg G2 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm with a 5.2"screen; if anything samsung will bring S5 with same 5.2" screen and even smaller profile than the G2

WOW! It's a piece me metal! Fantastico!
