For everyone thinking 64 bits is to access higher ram, you're wrong, current ARM chips can access ram up to 40bit addressing, which is way higher than 4GB, also to ifans who thinks 64bits would give much more performance it can give a little bump but not such big case if apps doesn't support it, also it costs more memory for 64bit instructions, as ARM says A50 is a 32bit with 64bit capability nothing much..

Protocol, 10 Dec 2013Just another marketing gimmick. 64 bit needs 4 GB RAM or higher. I thought that they can read 4GB or higher, not that the need 4GB. I could be wrong. I bet they will have a phone with 4GB of ram to go along with the 64bit processor just as a marketing gimmick.

Qualcomm, which acts as a supplier to handset-makers, will soon be trying to convince them to buy 64-bit chips. Little wonder, then, that Qualcomm's press relations team quickly repudiated Mr Chandrasekher's claim that beyond being able to support more RAM, there was "zero benefit" to 64-bit chips. There is—which is why Apple has adopted them. : [The economist]
This based on the opinion of Anand Chandrasekher, the chief marketing officer of Qualcomm, a rival technology firm, told Techworld: "Predominantly...you need it for memory addressability beyond 4GB [gigabytes]

Inspired by this, Toyota will produce V12 engine for low end car. Nah, I am just kidding. I am sure this is to prepare low end phone for 64-bit apps.

Anonymous, 10 Dec 2013Why is Qualcomm going 64 bit on its lowest chip? This will ... moreThe focus Google is giving performance and optimization of Android (already seen with Kit-Kat) should push up the available memory for applications and improve overall memory management. If I look at the increase in the clock speed and Android resource optimization I think 1GB will be enough.
Of course, there will always be those people who load every software app and customization they can find into the phone and complain about it running slow. But that can be done to any flagship phone or a desktop computer for that matter.

If you're saying all of the Apple applications released with ios 7.0 were 64 bit you are wrong.

Anonymous, 10 Dec 2013Why is Qualcomm going 64 bit on its lowest chip? This will ... moreWell 64 bit is just a side advantage..
they went with this because of cortex a53..
they lack behind mediatek in low and mid end.. they cannot beat them in price with cortex a7 and krait cores with 4g lte so they went ahead with cortex a53 .. cortex a53 is a slight upgraded cortex a7 .. it is cheap to produce and good on performance.. 64 bit is just a side advantage because arm has implemented it..
its just a transition to new processors..
in high end qualcomm will launch cpu based on cortex a57

I don't understand why people complain and saying things like "that's waste of time" Qualcomm is a extremely successfull company so I'm sure they know exactly what they doing

Anonymous, 10 Dec 2013In fairness to Apple, nearly all the applications are still... moreWhy is Qualcomm going 64 bit on its lowest chip? This will simply be paired with 512mb or 1gb RAM on low-end phones. No OEM will include 4gb RAM on a low-end phone in 2014, which makes this a waste of time.

OSagnostic, 10 Dec 2013It also mean you have a bit data bus. That should have said "64 bit data bus".
