People who seeks for 1080p in 6 inches of panel, should really go to a psychologist. It's mental, rather than being a geek.

A cheap 1080 display is still much better than any 720 phablet, for example Note 2 at only 5.5 inch suffers badly from its low PPI, how much more then with 720p at 6.1 inch. I agree with the other guy, its time 1080 displays enters midrange, Mate 2 would have been a great success if it had one and it would only cost a few dollars more to manufacture. The reason that most 1080p devices are so expensive is that they have high specs across the board, not because they are 1080. The problem is that 1080 requires more GPU power, forcing manufacturers to use slightly more expensive chipsets.

AnonD-180680, 31 Dec 2013And your point could be exactly pointless. 1080p made ch... moreBro. You need to go back to school, preferably Econ 101. Who said anything about 1080p screens being made cheap? As you get more volume, and as the process is refined and improved, costs go down. That doesn't mean you have to use sucky materials. Can you say "NEXUS 5?" Which, btw, was launched at much less than $500, and has a 5" screen. And are you telling me that you have personally checked out all the 1080p phablet screens that are coming out in sub-$500 phones and they all suck? No. Oh, and btw, please see the Xiaomi MI-3 and Sony Xperia ZL, both of which also have a 5" 1080p screen with Gorilla Glass like the N5.

And yes, high specs still mean something, even if you don't want them. You are free to not want them, and free to not want to pay for them, but they still have an effect, whether you want them to or not in your little fantasy land. That's the cold hard truth. Deal with it.

pewny, 31 Dec 2013Uhhh...that's my point... 1080p is NOT high end anymore... moreAnd your point could be exactly pointless.

1080p made cheap can have many undesired side effects. There are loads of cheap 1080p phones and all of them have aSi, non scratch-resistant glass, poor back-light panel etc. Not to mention poor overall build quality. Pretty sh*tty if you ask me.

High specs means absolutely nothing if you don't want to pay the premium. And all phablets with 1080p screen have launch price of more than $500. That's the cold hard truth. Deal with it.

Plus Balong 910 isn't really good with 1080p. So I'd rather have a cheaper but well balanced phone than some high-spec binbo.

Atlas, 31 Dec 2013That doesn't happen any more with Li-ion batteries, it did ... moreYou are also wrong. Li-po is the newest, an evolved li-ion type that is more durable but with the disadvantage of lower capacity. They are compatible with li-ion, for example some Xperia models were shipped with li-ion in europe and li-po in southeast asia, this due to the tropical climate in SE Asia, as li-ion was thought to be more sensitive to overheating and subsequent explosion/fire.

You are far off, there is no wrong way to charge li-ion batteries, they do not have a "memory" like ni-cd and ni-mh had. And you are not alone in misunderstanding this, i have seen people here recommend to fully discharge their li-ion batteries to improve them, and thanx God they have built in protection against this, because if you manage to fully discharge a li-ion it is destroyed for ever and can never be brought back to life, this is why li-ion batteries must be shipped with a charge. When your phone tells you that your battery is at 0% it is actually not empty at all, it still has enough juice to keep your phone on standby for hours.

The protection circuit required to protect li-ion batteries from short circuiting (they can explode if short circuited) and from total discharge is part of the reason why these batteries are expensive.

Now the other reason why li-ion batteries are expensive: They are perishable, they have to be used while still fresh, in short they will degrade no matter if used or not, unsold batteries has to be disposed of after 2 years, thats why you must ALWAYS CHECK THE PRODUCTION DATE WHEN BUYING REPLACEMENT OR SPARE BATTERY FOR YOUR PHONE.

1080p is NOT high end anymore (especially by the time the Mate 2 is released). That's why I'm saying that they should have 1080p for a MID RANGE phone, i.e. $300-$500. I'm not expecting them to have HIGH END components for a mid-range price.

No 1080p, no deal. If it's really 720p, I bet it won't do very well because there will be comparable (mid-range) offerings from competitors with 1080p. High end screens are now 2560x1440 (Vivo Xplay 3S and Oppo Find 7 for example).
