Makes sense as Microsoft's main competitors are software makers; Google and Apple. Can't see MS making up much ground on Samsung in the near future either so why not engage hardware makers and get it's OS on as many handsets as possible. That is how Android came to dominate in the global os battle, right ?

Microsoft is such a bully it doesn't matter to them,to through a few billions. As bill gates gives billions in charity money ain't shit to them anymore so they are now trying to,absorb the big companies they got nothing else to do except. For taking over companies

MS should spend money to develop WP more, add more features so it could compete with other mobile OS.

If WP had lot of compelling feature, I'm sure people and phone makers will flock to WP by themselves, no need to pay large sum of cash to invite them, lol.

MS have lot of money and lot of time to spent, but I'm always wondering why progress is really slow on WP.
Take a look at windowsphone.uservoice.com, there's lot of feature requested by people, but only little progress shown by MS each year.

                    All device OEMs knows that...
its better to get along with Microsoft than to be stubborn..

AnonD-210527, 15 Jan 2014Should pay the developers instead to make apps. that is the... moreExactly what I thought of. But it's more of a temporary solution. When there are enough WP8 phones on the market, developers will have to make apps. Also, in a few years, even if microsoft stops paying for phones, manufacturers will have to make them as people will demand them. Microsoft is probally trying to give people something they later won't want to loose.

Although I believe it's all too temporar. In 10 - 15 years, qubit OS's shall be availible. When they come out it's gonna be a mess of shit. If they use it wisely, they might come out absolute winners. They just need to find out what people want.

Google does not need to pay money to phone manufacturers to make Android Phone!

Paying money to buy major players and then to compete against its competitors is called "investment".

                                This is unethical "investment"!

Microsoft is making huge deals with companies that already support Windows software through laptop and desktop production. LG and HTC are not in that category. Huawei is a strategic move to ensure continued presence in the big Chinese market.

As long as the Galaxy S and Note series remain android it sounds fine. Those 1.2 billion can be used for implementation of OIS on the phones to name an example. Or maybe even a decrease of the price!
