It seems that they - whether it's Microsoft or Nokia's doing - are only interested in gaining (more of) a foothold in some markets, perhaps like the USA. I need to publicise the fact that here in South Africa, the retailers are still selling the Nokia 520 (don't obviously get the 521 here) for almost the equivalent of US$200 (two hundred!), and they won't budge much on that price.

Furthermore, they aren't even prepared to replace the 520 with the 525 - going back to the end of Nov 2013, please note the arrogance of a spokesperson of Nokia, based here - they wouldn't even publish the name of the person ; well stuff them! They can keep their precious phones, if this is their attitude. I for one certainly won't be buying a phone from the Lumia range.

                http://mybroadband.co.za/news/smartphones/92481-no-nokia-lumia-525-for-south-africa.html

                Quotes from article:
Nokia has no intention to bring the Nokia Lumia 525 to South Africa’s shores, a spokesperson for Nokia SA has told MyBroadband.

“The Nokia Lumia 520 is a key device for us locally and we are fully committed to driving its continued success along with our operator and retail partners well into 2014,” Nokia said.

What I think is that SA is a market they intend getting rid of excess stock of the 520 in, even though it's been successful around the world, especially Europe & South America from what I've read. They must have left-overs now the 525's been introduced, and have to get rid of them somewhere. As implied above, won't be supporting a phone-maker with that sort of vile underhandedness!

You have to remember that this phone isn't running on the Metro PCS network. It is running on T-Mobile's Network.

So Microsoft will pay phone makers to make windows phones and to consumers to buy windows phones.

I guess the only option left for them to make some return, would be higher cut in App store purchases and phone adverts. Considering apple and google are already making a killing each year via this route, it doesn't seem a bad medium-long term strategy.

However, WP users should get ready for shelling out more on App purchases, if its indeed true.
