Love my HTC one.. Can't think of any other phone that is as good, almost flawless..

I too am quite happy that HTC ONE was awarded the best of 2013. I have yet to find anything major to gripe about with my HTC ONE. It is a very capable device, with just about every feature I could need.
I'm not too concerned with the lack of water-proofing as I don't ever drop my mobile, much less in water.
However, make no mistake. Had Apple released a device in 2013 with a 5 inch or bigger display, it could've very well went the other way. Say what you will, but Apple do make very decent products, albeit very overpriced, but solid nonetheless with exceptional customer care.
I for one do not understand all the brand bashing. It's actually a little sad that some people have invested so much time & emotion to hating on Apple, Samsung, LG, Sony..etc..etc.
I use whatever device fits my needs. I could care less who makes it. It seems very strange that brand loyalty even exists.
Unless you are getting some kind of kick-back from these companies, try to stay open minded. It is, after all....a mobile phone.

I won't loose any time explaining something that is quite obvious to anyone who actually bothers to see real-world sample pictures of a 4MP Ultrapixel camera vs a regular 4MP camera.

In 2012 I prognosticated the fall of S4 in 2013, And I said HTC will come up with a best phone of the year. And many thought I was dementia. HTC delivers the best. This year HTC M8 will give iphone 6 tough time, don't say you were not warned. As for samsung their days and glory are over period. HTC for life no matter what

i'm still using a HTC Evo 3D and it is awesome. Antutu test gave 10k and it works flawlessly. Sadly no other 3D model appeared so i guess i have no hope. I have tested the One and i love the sound, the screen and the metal feeling.
