Sounds like it's going to be a great device.
At a great cost, also.

I just can't see Apple arbitrarily switching from Gorilla to Saphire without having real benefits considering the quadruple cost. It just wouldn't make sense. Apple has always been a company that doesn't put unnecesary bells and whistles unlike other companies. I know people will mention the fingerprint scanner but even that one is becoming a mainstream within the industry.

Babara, 26 Feb 2014Do you know what they use to cut the blocks of rock from th... moreMate you have a point. But seriously who would throw their phone into rocks and sand and rub them all of the joint to see if they scratch. The point is if you drop your phone on a rock or at the beach you rub it against the sand nothing will happen. If it is proper and true Sapphire Crystal. I question the term used by Apple stating Sapphire coating. I doubt it would perform as well. Perhaps another gimmick.

RejZoR, 26 Feb 2014They just forgot to mention sapphire is very scratch resist... moreThat is not true, Sapphire will not shatter like normal glass. It's composition as far greater than glass and even Gorilla Glass. If you wear expensive watches like I do and though I agree you never drop them they do get hit quite hard in some places and never a scratch or mark on them. But I did drop my watch once on tiles from 1.2meters high it landed dead on its face and nothing wrong with it at all not even a scratch. But then the glass in watches are a lot thicker that what Apple would implement so perhaps in that assumption you may be correct to say it would shatter.

Some say it's impossible unless they possess laser technology or something like diamond tipping tools(which were unavailable at that time). And then they realized the Egyptians use sands to cut the blocks. Yes, Sands. Dust and sands are enough to scratch a sapphire glass easily dude.

AnonD-90736, 26 Feb 2014Apple is not a premium phone, it's consumers wh have made i... moreI disagree. I have been in technology for many many years and have used, tested and played with many phones, OS platforms and hardware. From a usability point of view iOS is far much better to execute and manage. Android has too many steps to complete a task and to be Frank probably the next two best OS platforms for ease of use would have to be BlackBerry 10 and Windows and if it wasn't for the lack of apps these two platforms in addition to iOS would rock. But then I ask myself one question why after so many years we still need to open key individual apps to see our most critical data? Why not improve and enhance what BlackBerry have done by creating a hub. Those news feeds like Blink feed etc are just rubbish. BTW I am an iOS user. I would recommend you start to test other platforms before knocking them.

They just forgot to mention sapphire is very scratch resistant, but also shatters a lot easier than normal glass. Or even Gorilla Glass. Watches rarely fall on the ground, but phones do that quite often. Expect even more shattered iPhones in the future...

Well I own an iPhone 4s 64Gb which has had a Sapphire Crystal glass fitted as a screen protector and I can tell you that the only component that will scratch it is a diamond. It is far much stronger than Gorilla Glass and also much more stronger than the Toughened Glass sold by SPIGEN. But will be curious to understand what the coating actually means vs physical glass assembly. Is a coating enough to classify it as tough as Sapphire Glass?? Time will tell.

Apple is not a premium phone, it's consumers wh have made it into because they're all blind, i've held the iphone 5s in my hand and played around with it and it's such utter rubbish I cannot believe who silly people can be in paying top $ for this, all android phones look, feel and perform alot better than this rubbish.

No matter what the exterior will look like, the iPhone will still be as a restrictive mid-performing device trying to be high end. It can't even 10 of the 100+ things Android can:
