it will be a nice phone only if it can be shorten by removing the area where the characters HTC is. Now its thick bezel makes it look as ugly as apple phone.

With the Optimus L9 P769 leaving a sour taste, I've decided to avoid mid-range phones. I love the metal body and the larger screen. I just hope that HTC doesn't encrypt the bootloader.

SDKforLumia, 25 Mar 2014I have said it before, and I repeat it again today, Samsung... moreThere are two companies ywt to offer thee flagship smartphone and then we will decide who is the winner:
1. Apple iPhone 6 if it only gets bigger display it will beat all of above.
2. But the real game changer will be moto X2 or moto ultra x because what they did last year if the only move on same lines they will beat anything because user experience I saw on X is better than iPhone 5S Z2 S5 M8

A refinement over the previous One. But might still face an uphill task against the competition, namely Samsung.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2014Its an ultra-pixel camera, Isaac Newton.I need raw resolution for large format printing, at least 8MP for the sizes I'm printing at (and asking for a 8MP camera in a 2014 phone is not unreasonable I think).
and don't tell me 4 ultrapixels is the same as 8 regular megapixels.
HTC should have put an original larger sensor in last year's ONE and just skipped the whole ultrapixel gimmick altogether. The ultrapixel camera is really stopping more people from buying the ONE than it's giving them a reason to buy it. They could have fitted a regular 13MP sensor (with OIS) on the M8 and the response would have been overwhelmingly positive.

Don't even need ... moreLook at it from the bright side, most of those who will not buy the new One due to the same old uninspiring camera will not turn to the S5 but to the Z2, then at least the money still goes to one of the underdogs in the smartphone business and not to sam or apl.

Well, very big downer about the camera, and the length is too excessive for a five incher, never thought any 5 inch phone could beat the Z1 in being ridiculously long and its hard to believe anyone would want to, yet here it is, and its long! Insane. And its fat as well.
Great news about the card slot though, they learned their lesson there, same as Sony did with Xperia S, omitting card slots are VERY expensive experiments and the missing slot in last years One can still cost HTC their existence, accumulated losses it caused remains.

Can't believe they kept the 4MP camera.
Don't even need to sit on the fence about this one, not buying. Not even *considering*, can you read HTC? When will you release a 5"+ snapdragon 800+ 13MP+ 3000mAh+ phone?
Now that I think about it, do they even have a phone with two of those qualities?

Pretty good overall, but the lack of camera resolution bump is disappointing. I mean it's no doubt going to be great for nature shots, but it's again going to lack the resolving power to get those tiny objects sharply e.g. text. Was hoping that HTC would fit an 8 mp ultrapixel camera, but I guess they wanted a slimmer phone more.
Anyway good for all the htc fans out there.

Anonymous, 25 Mar 2014so have you used the 4UP camera then?On M7 yes, on M8 I didn't yet, but there's plenty of photo shoot comparison between two of them over the internet. Briefly: there are 2 elements to take into consideration when talking about a picture: number of pixels and quality of hardware. Of course, if you have a picture of 20mp taken with subpar hardware and processed with buggy software..that photo is crap. My point was that HTC's claim that a good hardware and software can make a photo great even if it has low mp is not true. Those are mediocre pics, ad best. Most of our pics (in my case, ad least) are viewed on a PC or TV where SIZE DOES MATTER...
I think that overal M8 IS A GREAT PHONE, maybe the best of 2014! But I'm so disappointed by its camera. I've read all the comments and reviews today and I think that the one below fits perfectly to my thoughts:

SDKforLumia, 25 Mar 2014I have said it before, and I repeat it again today, Samsung... moreDon't want to start a fight but I would absolutely disagree with you on Samsung's after care service, it is non existent! In the UK, you will have to go to a Nokia/Samsung Service centre which is independent, I know, as my S3 developed hairline cracks along the fake metal ridge, featured on PA. My issues and lack of Samsung taking ownership of the problem was also featured. I am circumspect when buying Samsung and do so with a low expectation i.e. no after care service! On the other hand, HTC and Sony have offered and given me excellent whenever I have had a problem with their products and have no complaints! I use a Samsung Galaxy S4 but the Google Play Edition and do so with no expectation of anything from Samsung!
