"We were asked, why don't you do background processing? It's bad for the customer. It drains battery. We've been testing this, and running some background processes on some phones. We took a popular AIM client, and we just let go in the background -- then we measured the standby time. And it dropped by 80% or more."

"With 3.0, we're going to enable accessory developers to build custom apps that talk directly to that hardware."

They started playing the "every day you wake up" ad song... but then quickly killed it in favor of Dave Matthews. Odd. Very odd.

There's definitely a feeling that this event is much quieter, more subdued. Everyone seems to be expecting the same thing -- and that's not surprising.

[deleted post]i totally agree with u m8 :) we are in the same boat SE owner since 4ever and ipod touch for the app store. i find it a gr8 combo. just interested about any new announc. that apple may have other than 3.0 of course. (copy paste should be a gr8 feature for iphone owners after all it is 2009 and other phones had it for ages now) Iphone 1st generation was just gr8 but 3g ruined it. anyways 5 hrs 2 go

even though I quite like my iphone, I have pretty low expectations of what Apple will 'announce'.
Their annoucements in last year or so have been pretty pathetic across the board.

Ive got an iphone and had many types of phones.
Its true, it can't do some very simple things that other phones can do, but it can do a lot of things that some of the best phones can't do (stemming from the apps)
Its basically a computer and I am amazed at some of the quality of the apps that you can get (and yes there are a whole lot of crap ones). Apple doesn't create these apps, but they have either mistakenly or on purpose created the opportunity for you to get these apps easily which work on a very capable phone.
Having said, besides fact screen is amazing and ipod is awesome, I want another phone. And not for all the stupid 'lets look at the specs on paper' arguments that people continually bring up as if thats what really matters in real life. I would prefer it to be smaller, and be easier to type on! At end of the day I don't care about most of the apps as I have a computer at home.
I don't think OS 3.0 will make a difference here, unless it brings landscape SMS, tethering and copy and paste. Its still pretty bulky for a phone for me.
