Tonight Apple presented the latest reincarnation of their iPhone OS, which brings new and exciting features to the already capable OS. Another significant change is that there will be 1000 new APIs that will give...

[deleted post]And you know why the iphone is still doing well? Because it is more than just a trend. It actually works quite well. I don't think that a trend would survive if it has nothing to offer at all. It has to deliver the goods, and the iphone did. I know people who do not have the iphone, and they are quite accepted very well in the society =) It's just a phone for crying out loud, not a passport or a visa, lol. This article did not attack Nokia, SE or Samsung, and looking at the very first post, no one attacked Nokia, SE or Samsung. Nokia, SE and Samsung fans are actually the ones who post in here and make trouble. Iphone owners are just happy for the new OS, I have no clue why Nokia fans like you are so affected by this, lol. Why?

The iphone HAS managed to influence the industry. If it was not for the iPhone the Omnia may not exist right now. Same goes for the Tube and all the other button-minimal touchscreen business/multimedia PDA phones. I am happy too because that is the kind of phone that I like. The iphone I think is an idea that started from the Motorola ROKR E6 just executed much better by borrowing features from a finnish phone. But now look how many phones carry accelerometer and proximity sensors? The iPhone did not and still does not need a 12MP camera with smile and face detection, night vision and a matching utility belt. While Nokia tries to put everything and the kitchen sink into their N series phones so that fanboys can "say" I have everything and yet not use half of these features, the iPhone is winning in useability. S60 does not beat MacOS mobile.

And to counter something... it is easier for a new company to grow by 300% than a mature company (wrt the iphone vs nokia). There is one undeniable fact:

The most amazing thing about the iphone is that it is Apple's FIRST phone offering and it was done extremely well.

Momo, 18 Mar 2009They added alot of stuff to the N97's OS and the tube's act... moreWell good for the N97 for adding more stuff. I hope it does well =) But I don't think it has anything to do with 3.0 OS.

The Tube is another name for 5800. Also, if you want to be really proper, it is ExpressMusic 5800, not just 5800. 5800 could just be 5,800 or some random number or something else =) So before you tell people to get it right, get it right yourself =)

U guys obviously do not have one then. The iPhone does so many other things that makes up for what it cant do. Besides its a internet browser phone not a camera phone. I used to think the same way until I bought one! Open ya minds!

They have tested several devices, and background processing proved to be a power drainer. Also impractical. Honestly, why would I need to several applications opened at the same time? I can barely check my emails on my iphone, much more entertain IM's. If it's urgent, call me or SMS me. And you keep pitting different Nokia phones to the iphone. Just proves that it takes several phones from Nokia to battle ONE iphone =) And really, why would I need multi tasking? Having music on while web browsing is multi tasking. Music = 1 task, Web browsing = 1 task, that's two tasks running at the same time. Most phone's have that feature alright, but quality not as good as the iphone's =)

The N97 would be using the same OS as the Nokia Tube. The Tube and the N97 would behave exactly the same.

And again, this news has nothing to do with your Nokia devices. Why are you bringing up your Nokia in here?

The iphone's data plan would enable you to send photos via email w/out paying extra charges. Same with receiving photos. Why would I pay extra to send and receive MMS? But I guess they ended up adding it in anyway. But honestly, the moment I upgrade to 3.0, the first feature I'd turn off would be MMS. I have 24/7 access to email through my iphone. Email me the photo, don't MMS it and have me pay extra charges.

Been reading all the posts and I realized that people who dislike the iPhone because of the lack of features that lots of phone already have, in some cases, for years.

I owned a Symbian phone before, a Moto E6, and played with my friends N95 8GB. Now I own an iPhone 3G.

I also played with many other phones in stores as well. What I notice is what sets apart the iPhone from the rest is the way it carries out commands.

Sure my E6 had copy and paste, but it was slow and sometimes inaccurate. I have to highlight things several times just to get it right. The demo from the video was flawless. Just the way copy and paste should be.

Accessing music on other phones are really tiresome. Some show much lag in the interface while others made music hard to find.

Language support is one big plus on my iPhone. English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese (ones I know and use) all work flawlessly at the same time across all applications. Of course, it can support all languages that's built into the iPhone in any application at any time as well. You simply can't to this with most other phones.

Movie watching, there's just no comparison. Some phones have better specs on paper but when you actually see the video from those phones, it just can't match the iPhone.

Moving about in any application is just fluid. Can't say the same for the other phones I've owned.

The 3.0 is going to make it even better. Paper specs just don't cut it. Actually using the devices is the only way to tell you why the iPhone is where it is at today.

Yes, the iPhone needs firmware upgrades to make it better. But others need a new phone to make them better. Which would you rather do? Spend $700 on a iPhone now and have free software updates or buy 2 or 3 phones a year just to get better features?

this has been fun, without a doubt. my preference is nokia, simply put. they own the majority of the market for some reason for many years now. they still put out top notch products rather it's touch or not. n95 was the king for a longtime for as smartphone, which i'm not sure what the iphone is. anyone knows for sure? thinking maybe pda since at&t have my media plan set as pda, oh well, cheers. waiting on the nokia n97!!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of the features I thought the iPhone already had, like landscape typing. Most if not all the features are also of being capably done on my i8510 INNO8 (in a different class I know because it it's a slider not a touch screen).

Trust Apple to innovate technology. :/

I'm also curious as to why the iPhone 2G can't do MMS, my old non-3G Samsung phone was capable of receiving and sending MMS messages as do most non-3G phones.
