This might be a bit too late no? Probably most of the people who got the faulty device already repaired it and paid for it. Thanks anyway for the FREE replacement...

I bought my iphone 5 on Dec 2012 , but your iphone 5 POWER BUTTON REPLACEMENT PROGRAM just only start this month. SO,can l also entitle to replace under this program????????????? tq

Apple mus... moreApple have 1 year between each phone, and probably 2-3 years between each redesign to get the design right. I think they are doing reasonably OK at that, and I've never had any major issues with their phones.
I'm using an iPhone 5, and it has to be the best built iPhone I've ever used. It's more robust than the 4 & 4S, I've dropped it a dozen times without any damage. Both the home button and power button still work without a hitch. Like the article said, only certain phones are affected, and Apple know exactly which ones.
So, they are improving and learning with each iPhone, but their commitment to fixing things that are truly their fault is the same as always.
And even if it's the user's fault (broken screen, water damage, etc.), a replacement iPhone is offered to the user for AU$230, which is way cheaper than what a new one would cost.

very costly, but parts are made in china, only the brand name keeps running it. I think some times it's waste of money

I leave in one of the most expensive European countries and pay 12 Euro for my wireless subscription that covers all voice and data needs of a geek like me.

As a disclaimer, I have never paid for as an apple product - the first ipod i won in a lottery game. And to be honest I rarely used any of the two mainly because of itunes. Also the first iPod was crashing a lot.

I just have to agree with those saying it's hardly newsworthy... They would have to fix those buttons anyway, as people would claim warranty on their failing phones. Nothing unusual, sh!t happens, every device can have faulty components. BUT! Instead of dealing with the problem as the claims come in, let's do a PR stunt, and announce to the world that we are doing it. Good advertising, and doesn't cost them a penny... Notice that they are not replacing the button on all qualifying phones, but only on those actually experiencing an issue. :) So, nothing different than a regular warranty repair. Duh...

Apple must do "thing right" all the time and not just thinking release product quickly to market by compromising the product reliability!
If Apple very confident in their product reliability, they should offer life time warranty for their products.
