I do want to see WP do well, I just think Microsoft have very obviously given it a low priority and I don't see how this is supposed to inspire confidence. I found a website about upcoming Windows phones and there were only two - a Samsung and I think a Huawei - and these were only rumoured. Not a particularly inspiring thought.

"Windows phone has the ability to lead the market" - sure, same stupid thing said Elop when he join Nokia and now they must sell thir phone part :D After 5 years WP get only 5%...even Windows Mobile have 12% wolrd and 30-40% in USA so WP for Microsoft is failure.

Windows phone has the ability to lead the market leaving android far behind, if Microsoft revamps its marketing team. They are not able to properly market a super good product.

Windows can easily gain market as I have mostly used Android and WP once and trust me it was the best phone ever for me.

But now I can't find a Windows phone that I can afford they are either low specs or unavailable.

The only reason WP is not popular is the less number of devices they make. Because I personally am dying after WP but can't find any...

Switching from symbian to wp!! Impossible! As an ex symbian (belle and older versions) lover and user.. I find Android more closer to symbian in terms of usability and openness.. Hence my switch was to Android 2 years ago.

I don't see WP growing much in 1-2 years if there's no CHANGE in strategy. The fact that WP has even more market-share than Blackberry is, in my opinion, due to the fact that it managed to attract many ex-Symbian users with the Nokia brand. In terms of OS features they are behind the competition (except maybe for cameras), and their constant bashing and trolling of other OS might end up not playing in their favor. Android will keep growing, I think there's still so much that can be done with such a free and powerful OS, and iOS has a strong user base who will not jump ship no matter what.

                                    I dont get the Math.
The Moto G, and S3 still costs at least as 1.5x the 520, and that is still quite a bit more in relative terms.

I think that most buyers of the 520 are quite price sensitive. Either they cant afford to pay more, or they really dont want to.

Moto G, and S3 are better phones, they are at least mid-range phones, but with better pricetags. The cameras are better, the displays are better. And the general cpabilities, when it comes to running apps.

But what we really need is capable sub 100 dollar smartphones (that is off contract, for you americans out there).
The 520 can be found in that priceregion at times, but it was introduced at a higher price. And really, it should have had a camera led (those are commonly used, despite what they do to the image, but they can mean the difference between getting something or getting nothing, but more so) they are usefull as flashlights if nothing else. And why the 525 still only had 512MB of RAM is beyond my understanding.
For the android guys, getting down to those costs, will be much dependant on what qualcomm can come up with, cause the devices found in that pricerange today, are severly underpowered.

Sub 100 dollar, is not only important for those with limited economical resources. But it's also a point where if you just need a phone, cause you broke the one you got, you can spontaiously get one (even if you are stuck on a contract, or if you are waiting for the big brands to update their high end models, or perhaps as something parents get their children when they broken the expensive phone they gor for christmas).
It could be quite significant for WP, as it's a pricepoint, where you could pick one up to try it spontaiously just to try a new OS (but it could also win over iOS guys to the android experience, cause it seems by comments floating around, that, that is about the pricepoint of the devices they experience android at, but even outside the tech community, I think that it's a common experience, often due to breaking their iOS device, they insted get stuck with a cheap android, and really dont like it).
It's a pricepoint, where you can get away without an expensive contract, to go with your phone.
It's also a pricepoint that fits those that really dont care about phones, and just need something functional, they often think that a phone should not cost more (today shopping at that pricepoint, mostly get you something frustrating, if you go for a smartphone).

I was hoping that Nokia/MS would try to get to that pricepoint with the 5xx line. Seeing how the 520, sold quite well, just buying components at larger bulks, could have gotten it to that pricepoint, at least if MS was either willing to let margins drop or help nokia a bit financially, like it seems Google has been doing on some Nexus products (depending on who owned the devices part of Nokia). But instead they left the field wide open. And the X-line didn't help either, as it was several of steps back, in all terms, but for porting the Here services (which MS will not be involved with).
